Just dump Uribe. And I agree with Rick…it’s the easiest way to unload a mistake. Ned Colletti isn’t the brightest light on the block. But this year he has amassed quite a potent lineup–one that could easily rival the NY Yankees sluggers. Speaking of NY, they had Alfonso Soriano when he first came up. A wonderful hitter, but a poor 2nd baseman. So they switched him to LF, where his errors drove Cashman crazy so he traded him. Cubs end up with a 2-year $36 million contract and they can’t just “dump” him. They want a good prospect for this older hitter and are willing to pay 2/rds of his salary for someone to take him off their hands. Good move. Punto is a terrific utility guy. I like Schumaker a tad more, but Punto is solid. If he’s the worst player you’ve ever seen…you never saw Honeybear Floyd Rayford play 3b.

Uribe should have stayed with the Giants after winning that WS against Texas. I suppose the extra $$$ he got in the new contract was impossible to resist, though.

Yes, I am seeing orange and black…draped all over the NLWest , the NL Division and WS trophy for 2 of the last 3 years. If what I said is wrong, why not keep Uribe or just dump him…Dodgers obviously don’t need the money and will get nothing back in return for these players.

But the black and white print is clear…Uribe was a bad signing and the Red Sox are thanking the Dodgers for removing those albatross of contracts from their payroll.

You all can continue to deflect blame to McCourt all you want, but Colletti was signing those contracts and he is still there signing contracts. And if Colletti is your new puppet, why not just remove him as well.

Actually, this is Ned Colletti showing up his old bosses on the Giants type of signing…it was seen as an in your face to the Giants for stealing Uribe away from the Giants after the WS. But the Giants knew Uribe’s worth and was not willing to match the ridiculous offer. The Giants were only willing to give a 1yr contract at a much lower annual value ($4m-$6M max) with maybe a 2nd year team option as a sweetheart deal for being part of the WS team. There is a reason Uribe only got 1 year deals while he was with the Giants…the wheels were going to fall off and rapidly.

For me, this Uribe situation foreshadowing for all the crazy contracts the Dodgers are handing out. Colletti is still signing bad contracts in the hopes of defeating the Giants and winning a WS, to shove in the face of Giants ownership who kicked him to the curb.

On paper, the Dodgers have improved. We shall see if the $250M team is capable of first winning the division, then actually going deep into the playoffs. But as we learned from Donnie baseball’s comments the other day, anything other than winning the WS will be seen as a failure of a season!

DF: “How about Uribe?”
GPB: “Fat”
Ring, ring
DF (picks up phone): “Hello, Mr Wolff. Yes, yes. I understand.”
GPB:”Was that Lew?”
DF: “Yes. He says we have to take one of these guys. He’s says he isn’t gonna pay Boras’ price for Drew. He says he’s got “commitments’”
GPB: “I guess we can slim tubby down. Call Weight Watchers.”

Or something like that, only with reams of statistics thrown in.

Uh…

Beckett had a 2.93 era in 7-games for the Dodgers last season. Funny what a whiff of fresh air can do for someone with talent. If he keeps pitching that way we’ll need to give him a raise.

Dump Becket??? No chance, the dude is a stud and he’s finding his game again in LA.

Ah never mind this guy. He commented the EXACT SAME THING on one of Craig’s posts. Apparently the irony of doing so is totally lost on him. Its a mark in the favour of the bloggers that they don’t ban his ass. He adds nothing to the discussion, isn’t funny, and has an endless supply of the stupid. Yet he’s still here. Somehow, even though they have the power to do so, they’ve all held off from punting his pointless ass out of here. If it was me, I’da turfed him long ago. But, he hasn’t broken any rules, seems content with being outclassed at every turn by the bloggers, and generates some page views, so here he still is. HBT bloggers: too tolerant for their own good, if you ask me.
