No my point with Hamilton was that he needs to be away from a situation that might cause him to relapse...The Rangers have what? 4 or 5 beat writers? The Yankees have 20 reporters who will hammer him mercilessly when it comes to a slump or a bad game, it's an entirely different atmosphere and a lot of players cannot handle the constant pressure of performing here...We're talking about a guy who cannot carry money and has to have a babysitter with him at all times...In New York you can get anything you want at any time and in any place and I just don't think it would be good for him to be here...Point is moot anyway with the Angels signing him now...And I don't think King Felix is overpaid because his salary is equivalent to his talent, but if the Yankees are serious about getting under $189 million as they've been indicating, then his is not a contract we should be taking on right now

@jolink, I agree that the trades would be dumb, but there is nothing more annoying than the "player X isn't cut out for New York" trope. As if baseball is somehow qualitatively different in the Bronx than anywhere else. Sometimes the Yankees make stupid deals (or even good deals that don't work out), and this is the fans' own unique way of rationalizing it. Plus, there is no evidence that Hamilton's personal issues have affected his game over the last six years, so why bring that into it? And Hernandez is not overpaid

This is just a stab in the dark, but maybe it is unpopular because it makes no sense.

The first deal manages to be a loser for both teams. Why would they trade away Felix Hernandez for three single-season rentals? They are not in win-now mode by any means. On the other hand the Yankees would be giving up two outstanding players this season, and they, unlike the Mariners, will be contenders this season. They don't "NEED" to trade any player that will be useful this season, because this season matters.

On the other hand, the Cubs might be happy to trade Soriano for Nova, probably because it is a laughably terrible, ludicrous, smelly, unbelievably awful deal for the Yankees. They would be acquiring two seasons of an old, bad-hitting player while giving up four seasons of a young pitcher with a lot of potential. Soriano couldn't handle second base a decade ago (back when he wasn't old), which is why he was moved off that position. But the Yankees would switch him back to second because they had a hole there. Why was that again? Oh yeah, it was that other horrible trade that they made. Maybe if Soriano played really deep, he could also cover the gaping hole that they would have in center field after that deal.

I would agree with your argument, except for the trade that went down between the Royals and Rays for James Shields. The report was first made on twitter at around 10:40PM by multiple sources (Heyman, Rosenthal, etc) Usually MLB Trade Rumors has the story up within 5-10 minutes of a report, yet I guess because it was a Sunday night they were delayed and didn't get the story up until 11:02PM. Lo and behold HardballTalk didn't post the story until 11:12PM. So are you going to tell me that your people didn't get the information from MLB Trade Rumors?

Well i knew it would be an unpopular post but why? seriously.. Cano HAS to be traded due to his request for a ten yr contract. Grandy NEEDS to be traded if they want anything half decent for him and hughes is expendable. so why is it such a bad idea? they drop some serious salary and certainly get a lot better.

Or some would say that, when you're summarizing the same article and the topic is limited to how they might fit with a given team, that there's only a limited number of things one might say, such as to (a) blockquote the nut graf; and (b) cite the players' stats.

Now, you may not think this is very worthy or useful. That's fine. But to suggest that we're plagiarists is ridiculous. Basically every news/rumors site writes this sort of thing with respect to every report like that. We all follow George King and read the NYP baseball stuff every day. That's how those things get generated.
