Yankees considering trade for Angels’ Vernon Wells?

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal provides the scoop:

The Yankees, sources say, are among the possibilities for [Vernon] Wells — the teams discussed him at the winter meetings, and Wells could fill the Yankees’ need for a right-handed hitting outfielder.

Wells has batted just .222 with a .667 OPS over the past two seasons and is owed salaries of $21 million in 2013 and 2014, but the Angels are surely willing to eat most of that remaining money. And Wells would probably be open to waiving his no-trade clause for a fresh start, and a chance at regular playing time.

Rosenthal says the Yankees are also “looking at” free agent Scott Hairston to fill their outfield vacancy but might not be willing to meet his desire for a two-year contract. The times, they certainly are a-changing.

If the Borg makes this move, the Steinbabies might as well sell the team back to CBS.

Gator, if the Yankees make this move, CBS would want the Yankees pay them to take the team back!

Even if the Angels eat all but, say, 6 mil?

Once Wells is acquired the plan to get that “Official Gerontologist of the New York Yankees” sponsorship filled is going in motion.

Am I the only one that likes this move (for both teams)? Yankees would get a natural platoon partner for Ichiro, and some added pop off the bench (Wells would just be filling the role that Andruw Jones held for the past two seasons). Ichiro would get the majority of PAs, plus give the Yankees a highly-effective pinch-hitter and/or defensive replacement in games started by Wells. Wells is simply more valuable to the Yankees than he is to the Angels, so this move fits both clubs.
