Am I the only one that likes this move (for both teams)? Yankees would get a natural platoon partner for Ichiro, and some added pop off the bench (Wells would just be filling the role that Andruw Jones held for the past two seasons). Ichiro would get the majority of PAs, plus give the Yankees a highly-effective pinch-hitter and/or defensive replacement in games started by Wells. Wells is simply more valuable to the Yankees than he is to the Angels, so this move fits both clubs.

They could use Morales as a full time DH until Rodriguez returns and then look to trade him. Morales will be a free agent next year, so I don’t think he’d have much trade value.

Morales is a 1B/DH at this point. Do the Yankees really want a full time DH? It was my understanding that they were going to use the position to rotate their 30 something players through to give them a half day off.

Hi ‘harry. Having a good off-season? Hope so. Good to see you on a Yankee thread. Not really used to it. You’re usually over on the Beaver Men stuff. Nice to see your rooting interests have broadened. And don’t worry about The Empire with Vernon Wells. He gives a good interview, is well liked by his teammates, does a lot of charity work, is by all accounts a very nice fella. Why, when he comes back to Toronto he’s always joking with his old teammates and having a great time. I guess he really liked it there. Maybe it’s just that society? Anyhow, he’ll fill out The Empire Bench very nicely. It’ll be like if Jar Jar Binks went over to The Dark Side. Ever notice how much Jar Jar looks like Disney’s Goofy? You can think of Vernon as “Evil Goofy”. Take care, ‘harry…ROFL….

They could use having their heads examined. I can’t believe I’m going to commit this thought to e-ink but it looks to me like The Mets, by adding cheap young talent, are getting better faster and cheaper than the Yankees are IF they go with this move.

Vernon Wells is a pretty nice guy. Does a lot of community work. Never in the media for being an ass. Liked by his teammates. Does ok with the interviews. But as far as baseball goes? Yeah, he’s had his day. The Yankees should target Kendreys Morales instead. He can at least HIT a baseball.

The only reason Wells is a dog is because the Angels picked up virtually his entire contract from the Jays. If the Angels are willing to EAT $40MM of his remaining $42MM dollars let the Yankees take him. They can always release him at any time with no impact on the team. Trading for Wells under those circumstances is of no consequence. It’s no different then signing him to a minor league deal.
