As far as I know, there are no rules against including a signing bonus in contract extensions. Alternatively, the Jays could tear up the existing contract and give him a 3 year contract.

Rasmus has the most upside by a ton, Boneface can play anywhere and is a better hitter than Davis, (getting better every year), and Davis is by FAR the worst defensive OF of the three.
I’d try Boneface at 2b, Rasmus has to start and Davis is a huge asset off the bench.

Have you looked up their numbers, Buffalo? I have. Here:
Bonifacio: .671 OPS, 77 OPS+, Season Average SO/BB = 125/52, Averages 37 SB/season, Averages 626 PA/Season

Davis: .687 OPS, 86 OPS+, Season Average SO/BB = 87/30, Averages 51 SB/season, Averages 518 PA/Season

Rasmus: .689 OPS, 85 OPS +, Season Average SO/BB = 144/56, Averages 7 SB/Season (!), 626 PA/Season

So…Bonifacio SO’s slightly LESS often than Davis. Appears in more games. That’s it. Rasmus: better RBI guy. Better Power BUT not much good at helping other hitters and his OBP was .289(!) last season. Davis had a .309 OBP. Still I can see an argument for Rasmus in the game, but Bonifacio?

In every other category Davis is better. Why do you want Bonifacio? I guess he could play 2nd since he can claim “utility infielder” on his resume. But of these guys I want Davis playing OF. He’s got great speed, a good arm, and when he comes up to bat he gets on a higher clip than the other two. When he’s on (which he does more often than the other two) he creates havoc. He’s not the guy you want on the pine. Colby seems to be in perpetual attempting-slump-buster mode. He can work it out off the bench.

Yeah but how are you not excited to see how it plays out? I mean obviously it’s a risk but you weren’t gonna win the world series in the next 2 years anyway so why not try to acquire a gifted young catcher with tremendous upside?

And as far as the only concern is “his health”, well for a young guy that ‘s supposed to play the most physically demanding position on the field..I guess that’s TINY concern. I would feel better if the main concern was that he could not bunt, or just he was flat-out slow running the bases.

All I can tell you is the Toronto has actually put together a team that I would pay and look forward to see play. The Mets. No. I suspect that Toronto is going back to their competitive ways of the the early 90s. If their fans start to show up to back their team like in the old way, this team will take off. The Mets. No.

Sure there’s a chance that this trade works out great for the Mets, but given the track record, what are the chances that this ownership group / management has made the right move? Anybody can get lucky once in a while…I guess.

Well sheesh man you should be excited about getting the #1 catcher prospect in all of baseball to team up with zach wheeler. The only concerning thing is his health. But I think it’s an exciting trade for the Mets. I hope it works out for them.

Sucks to see Dickey go but when you have to rebuild and you have an asset that can net you a good haul one has to pull the trigger. Likeable players is nice and all but the reason one is in sports management is to win the big prize and sometimes in order to improve the team the most likeable guy needs to go in order to bring in some talent. Obviously prospects can flame out since no one can predict the future (at least not yet). One thing is for certain, on paper the AL East is going to be one hell of a fight with all these great pitching staffs.
