If he wasn’t a known Christian, you would think the guy was business savy and made an intelligent financial move while giving towards a charitable foundation. What a good dude. But since he’s Christian. He’s suspicious and morally wrong/dirty behind the scenes. Somewhere deep inside, there’s anger and resentment towards Christianity. I think the source of that anger is more suspicious than Mr Hamilton and his charity arrangements

It makes no difference to the charity and can help his personal tax situation, depending on circumstances and location. I’m not currently up on California tax rules, but here in Ohio this arrangement would save him about $110,000-$120,000 over the five years. It could also save the Angels some money, depending on their tax structure.

I guess if you intend to give a proportion of your salary to charity and can get tax relief on it by getting your employer to donate it directly rather than you receiving it and then passing it on then why not? Of course, this is just one scenario and I don’t even live in the US so don’t know how it might work in practice.

However it works, pleased to see the majority of people here are being reasonably uncynical about it.

Hamilton’s charity, The Four Twelve Foundation, is run by Josh, his wife, and his agent. And it doesn’t have a website. What kind of serious charity, seeking donations to help people, doesn’t have a website? Paying the charity is just a tax-avoiding way to pay Hamilton the same amount of money.

How much money do you donate to charity every year? How much time do you devote to giving back? Would you ever expend the effort necessary to found and run a charitable organization? Maybe get your own house in order before you criticize someone else for doing something great.

I am neither an accountant nor a tax specialist, but I would guess there are tax implications. Is there a cap on how much charity is tax deductible? If so, it is possible that Hamilton is already over that, and any additional money would be taxed as his income first, which may leave less to go to the charity than if it is given directly to the charity. But, just a guess on my part.

I was going to make the same point. I’m no tax whiz but charitable donation deductions are limited to 50% of adjusted gross income. So while I would highly doubt it that Hamilton intends to exceed that amount, by allowing the Angels to make that donation directly to the charity rather than through him he can donate as much as he wants to it and be able to deduct the whole thing, up to 50% AGI.

I think it’s perfectly fine Christian charity and good for the Angels and Josh, but it’s kind of a dumb move financially on his part.

He’s actually sacrificing quite the tax break by making a team donate money that would have gone to him instead of just donating it himself.

the money is from HIS contract and considered his donation and yes he can right it off.
there is a reason the club is a middle man, so he can’t blow the money and the charity loses out.

You may be on to something. I think kkolchak is a pretty intelligent guy, and not at all a total mental deficient. My top theory is that Hamilton’s charity is an orphanage… that secretly murders the orphans and turns them into high quality leather shoes.

Because of this clause in his contract, you have now heard of the charity.

I still don’t know what they do. I actually did a two minute search on the internet and can’t find anything about the foundation other than it was founded this year and that the Angels are giving them money.

An educated guess is that it’s about youth ministry. A pessimistic guess would be that it’s to get needed chemicals into the hands of meth manufacturers
