So you want to trade not one, but two MLB starting pitchers and a mediocre OF with a career OPS+ of 96 for… a mediocre OF with a career OPS+ of 84. Seems reasonable, you should apply for the Marlins GM position.

Really? Doubt the Rangers would decline that offer. On the other hand, Detroit would never offer that for Andrus.

I’d go so far as to offer Smyly, Porcello and Bosch for Andrus but doubt that Texas would take that deal.

When the Tigers are quiet it usually means that something is on the horizon(sorry Scott Boras its not for your greedy overpriced closer). I smell a big trade could be coming. If a pitcher is involved I’d rather it be Porcello.

It shouldn’t be Smyly. He’s young, under control, lots of upside and our only lefty starter.

Porcello is also young, with upside, but the fact that he is another righty, and more importantly, not nearly as effective with a bad infield defense being a groundball pitcher. That style doesn’t compliment the Tigers at all. He’s the obvious choice.

Since I’ve heard that the Tigers were trying to trade Garcia to the Rays for Shields (before he went to KC) it’s clear that he’s not untouchable. Considering that, the obvious need to upgrade the infield D at the only position possible (SS), the market far Peralta, even as a 3B, and the availability of Boesch, I smell a big deal coming for a SS, or a good OF for LF at the least.

Would be nice to see a SS or 2B come in return. Of coarse the Upton rumors never go away, so maybe this could be a trading piece. The Rangers don’t seem very happy, maybe a 3 way deal with Upton to Rangers, Elvis Andrus to Detroit and lots of players to Arizona?

I would like to think the Tigers would need an overly enticing offer on Smyly as he’s a young lefty…and with a rotation full of RHP he seems like a natural fit for the #5 slot. As I’ve read quite a few different places I would not be surprised to see a package of players from the Tigers being shipped out to upgrade a position like SS or an OF to go along with Jackson & Hunter.
