The Tigers expect Victor Martinez to be 100% for spring training

In case you’re not impressed with the Torii Hunter signing or the idea of Anibal Sanchez being around all year, remember Tigers fans, you’re basically adding an All-Star caliber bat this offseason too:

[Dave] Dombrowski said designated hitter Victor Martinez (knee) remains on schedule to begin spring training. “I can’t say he’s 100 percent but he’s very close,” Dombrowski said. “We anticipate he’ll be 100 percent for spring training. He’s doing very well.”

Martinez hit .330/.389/.470 and drove in 103 runs in 2011. Needless to say, that — or anything even close to that — plays better than anything Delmon Young have the Tigers in 2012.

The Tigers could be better in 2013 than they were in 2012.

      Um, “could”?

      • proudlycanadian - Dec 18, 2012 at 10:58 AM

They will lose some more games to the Jays, otherwise, they should win at least 90 games.

Yeah, “could”. They have to play the Beav, as PC mentions. The competition when the face Dickey’s gonna be stiff. Johnson, too.

Yes, keep it up, gentlemen. Feb. 23rd we get to…shesus, there isn’t anything I can do with Tigers beating Beavers that you all can’t make unclean. (sigh)

I won’t believe anything about V-Mart until he reports to camp “in the best shape of his life”.

Uh huh huh, huh huh, huh huh, uhhh

But the Blue Jays are OBVIOUSLY the team to beat.

We need a new meme this offseason. Instead of BSOHL posts, we should do 100% posts. As in : “X player says he will be 100% by spring!” Whatever that means…

Can’t wait to have him back. He’s also the leader of this team and will help them in the playoffs big time

Also keep in mind that many of the Tigers had some of the worst years of their careers. Jhonny Peralta’s offense collapsed, Ryan Raburn’s career might have ended, Brennan Boesch continued going in the wrong direction, and Avila was hurt the entire year. Obviously Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder put up good numbers, and Austin Jackson had a career year, but the supporting cast just fell off the map. It’s probably a good bet that you’re going to see some regression back to the mean for a couple of these guys, and the Tigers won’t be playing Boesch nearly as much, and Raburn is gone.
