I’ve been enjoying Hard BeaverMen Talk way more than Hard Boston Talk, PC. I say we stick with this format. Among the interesting things to come up is the number of Bever Fans there are. How about the Red Sox?

The Red Sox have been far too quiet. They have yet to finalize the Mike Napoli contract. Are they getting cold feet due to a failed physical? Might they go after a different person to play first base instead? I understand that a first baseman who played in Washington last year might be available.

Ah Ramon Ortiz, we’ll always have 2002 together (so long and thanks for all the fish).

Otherwise, what a total head case.
I think it was 2003 or 2004 when Mike Scioscia had to expressly forbid Ramon from ever shaking off the catcher’s pitch selection until further notice. Ramon really did get “that bad.”.

It does seem amazing (bewildering?) that he’s still bouncing around professional baseball.

Probably injury insurance. After last season, when they had the months of “Bring Out Your Dead”, Anthopolous probably took note of how much he and other teams needed spare arms/fielders to eat innings and occupy a spot in the OF. Also AA knows how important it is to have Punto-types around to throw in with a tempting prospect when he needs a certain player. Both these signings can fulfill needs that came up last season and will be sure to come up this season: if not for The Beavz then with some other team who’re watching the starting rotation/bullpen/fielders collapse like dominos.

In the meantime, I keep staring at this thing….
