From Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun comes word that Orioles owner Peter Angelos and manager Buck Showalter have “established parameters for a multi-year contract extension” that should be made official at some point in early-to-mid January.

Showalter, who makes his offseason home near Dallas, met with Angelos several times last week in Baltimore and will return for the finalization of this new long-term pact shortly after the holiday season.

“Because of the trust we have in each other, [Angelos] knows I am not going anywhere,” said Showalter, who is currently locked in only through 2013. “He has expressed interest in doing something and I’ve expressed interest in staying. And we think that can happen.”

Showalter led the Orioles to their first postseason appearance since 1997 this past fall and owns an impressive 196-185 managerial record since taking over the job near the end of the 2010 campaign.

Should’ve won manager of the year. No other skipper could have turned this team around. Keep ShOwalter as long as possible.

No doubt a case was made for Showalter but I think because the A’s won the AL West the voters decided to go with Melvin. Certainly a very smart move by the O’s to keep Showalter they would be stupid to let him go.

Guy should have been manager of the year. Melvin managed a team that has been competitive. The o’s have been moribund for a generation. What Melvin did was impressive. What showalter did was miraculous esp considering the injuries, overall lack of real talent and the astounding lack of depth in the farm.

Buck is one of the half dozen managers that can really make a difference. Give the man whatever he want and promise him whatever you need to get him to stay.

    Neither surprising nor unwarranted.

Showalter is one of the best in the business and since arriving at Baltimore he’s proven that he’s still got it. I expect that the O’s are going to regress a bit inasmuch as they won more then their share of close games. But, if they can continue to improve their personnel they are going to make the AL East miserable for their competition.

who cares about manager of the year award……….
everyone says that Angela manager Mike S. ids the best manager
and I doubt that because his record is not all that great.

Buck can straight up manage and people know it.
