Ted Williams was part Mexican. Most Mexican guys are jerks as was Ted but Young seems like a cool guy so he must be more Anglo Saxon then anything else.

Didn’t Young play for the US a WBC or two ago?

Look, it’s a bit of a stretch when an American citizen decides to play for another country just because he has some ancestry there. But I can hold my nose and accept that. What I can’t accept is a player deciding to play for country A during one WBC, then play for country B during another WBC. Pick one, and stick with it! The whole idea of the tournament is to determine which country’s nationals field the best team. Kind of defeats the purpose if players can change countries between WBCs as easily as they can change teams during free agency.

How do they even know his mom is of “Mexican descent”. That sounds as if somewhere there is some Mexican in him, but not directly. Grandparent, great grandparent… so how do they even know to list him? Do they fill out some sort of paperwork that lists it all going back generations? Strange.

In answer to your hypothetical question Craig, the country he would ask to be traded to is Canada. Our team needs another middle infielder. As Young was originally drafted by the Jays, he does have a connection to this country.
