The Yankees seem to do well with role players: Ibanez, Chavez, Jones (2011), Thames (2010). They need a good RHH badly.

He’ll be a good pick up for you. I always liked him as a Brave. A lot of hustle and good character.

It’s a very un-Yankee-like signing, low-risk, medium-reward and possibly a fine fit. Instead of throwing a lot of money at someone, they’re going the “if you produce, you stay” route.

However, they still need someone as an outfield spare who can play every day if needed. Diaz has mashed lefties in the past, but he’s overmatched vs. RHP.

I don’t think Diaz will be their only option when all is said and done and the Yankees break camp and head north in the spring.

Went to school with this guy’s wife. Apparently he’s a huge Yankee fan.

The only thing is….both my wife and I remember his wife having a different name than his actual wife has.

So we might have just gone to college with a crazy person who thought no one would challenge her for saying she was married to a marginal ballplayer very few people had heard of (at that point…it was when he played for the Royals)

On a minor league deal it’s a low risk high reward possibility. Even if he makes the team he’s definitely looking at being the 4th outfielder behind: Gardner, Granderson and Ichiro. It won’t be the first time Cashman has caught lightening in a bottle. Rumor is IF Diaz make the big league team his contract is for $1.2MM
