I’m sure most of us reading this story can think of several cases off the top of our heads in which MLB teams found out they had a domestic abuser on their payroll and just shrugged their proverbial shoulders; it would be disingenuous to suggest that the way the Rakuten Golden Eagles are handling this is any different. It’s super disappointing, to say the least — I never look at these guys the same way after I hear about their involvement in domestic violence incidents. Perhaps most disappointing of all is the fact that a guy like K-Rod would probably serve some time in the clink if he were just a regular dude and not a baseball player, yet these ball players just get away with all kinds of truly awful things.

All of which makes Tachibana’s “unless there is any more big surprises” comment sound pretty awful, because it implies what’s already being reported wasn’t “big” enough.

Yeah, I’m sure a Japanese team said so in English to Japanese press and nothing was lost in translation to the point where we can just quote it and nitpick on wording and grammar. No problem here whatsoever!
