Tweet of the Day: Chipper Jones vs. a basketball hoop

Dec 27, 2012, 12:25 PM EDT

Retirement has its challenges too, it turns out. My advice for someone who made $170 million playing baseball? Take a saw to the ladder and just buy a new one.

    Some assembly required, eh Larry?

Pro-Tip: use the right tool for the job. And that tool is a sawhorse.

Wealthy pro tip: hire a handy man to do it for you.

I built a pool and foosball table for my so this year. It came out great but was a total pain (the kit actually had drill holes off center, so I had to redo them myself for example). The experience solidified my opinion that letting others do the work is the way to go.

        First world problems, eh?

      • raysfan1 - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:01 PM

(Typed while laughing) yeah, no doubt!

anyone remember that episode of Married with Children when Al and Bud try to put together a similar ladder and the whole episode they cannot figure it out. at the end of the episode they are sitting on the couch all bruised up and beaten and Kelly walks over and just pops 2 parts into place and BOOM working? Yea.. Chipper doesnt either

  3. approvenothing - Dec 27, 2012 at 12:40 PM

Why not just leave the step ladder hooked up to the basetball hoop and set it up that way, what is it gonna hurt?

    Ahahaha! That’s funny stuff.

  6. ezthinking - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:02 PM

Clearly not enough Bud Light was drank when putting it together. It’s an easy 12 pack job.

Oh and there are just two bolts that hold the two poles together, just down from the label, so its about a 2 minute fix.

He better have a great financial adviser….

  8. ballcoach72 - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Looks like he also has the base on backwards. Good old Chipper.

  9. bravefan4life - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:24 PM

OK, this is just classic! Props to Chipper for having the courage to publicly laugh at himself, while giving all of us a chuckle too.

  10. amaninwhite - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Good thing he retired or else the Braves might have a panic attack over the thought of him playing pickup basketball.

  11. vincentmoonoir - Dec 27, 2012 at 1:29 PM

That’s awesome! Gotta love that he can make fun of himself about it.

  12. greymares - Dec 27, 2012 at 2:49 PM

the fact that project was being done in the garage, and the garage is part of the house. it would seem to me that this would come under housework, should have let the Mrs. do it.

    • indaburg - Dec 27, 2012 at 3:13 PM

      He’s not married.

Seeing Larry on Twitter typing things like “Lol!!” at the end of his tweets fills this Met fan’s heart with a tremendous feeling of satisfaction. Not a lot about being a Met fan that can do that for me nowadays.

    What a maroon!

    • koufaxmitzvah - Dec 28, 2012 at 8:38 AM

You probably didn’t know definition #4 which I’m sure inspired Bugs Bunny more than a mispronounced Moron. Especially being that Bugs has that 1940s savoir faire.

Calling the word out, not you.

      • historiophiliac - Dec 28, 2012 at 7:34 PM

I guess I don’t follow you. I don’t see the connection between that and Bugs Bunny. Also, I don’t see a negative meaning in the word. It seems to have the same meaning as Seminole.

      • koufaxmitzvah - Dec 31, 2012 at 10:16 AM

The general meaning of the phrase is that Elmer Fudd is a stupid as one of those eggplant looking Islanders. The connection between Bugs and the ’40s is that there was a lot of racism in America at the time accepted by the populace as being okay. One reason why a crappy restaurant chain was able to maintain their Sambo’s name and imagery up until the ’70s.
