Brian Wilson has narrowed down his list of potential landing spots

Dec 28, 2012, 7:29 PM EDT

Brian Wilson AP AP

We haven’t heard much about Brian Wilson recently, but CBS Sports’ Scott Miller reports that he’s drawing “lots of interest” in free agency. While he isn’t close to signing yet, he has narrowed down his list of potential landing spots from nine or 10 teams to around five. It’s not clear if any of those teams will offer him a chance to close.

Wilson is coming back from Tommy John surgery, so chances are he’ll have to settle for something similar to Ryan Madson‘s recent deal with the Angels. Madson will make a $3.5 million base salary in 2013 and could earn an additional $2.5 million in roster bonuses and another $1 million based on games finished.

Wilson, who turns 31 in March, has a 3.21 ERA and 171 saves over seven seasons in the majors. He’s expected to be cleared for spring training and Opening Day.

I politely invited him to Detroit. :)

Mike Love wants Brian Wilson as far away as possible.

        Wouldn’t it be nice?

wow, what an original and insightful comment!

So pretty much he expected the Giants to sign him for 6.8 Gauranteed and still
Looking for work? He loves to be mad at SF but he’s looking at pretty much deals SF was offering with incentives…good luck elsewhere we will see if your act goes over well outside SF

    • biasedhomer - Dec 28, 2012 at 8:09 PM

Oh whatever team takes him will love him, he’s one of those players that you hate unless they are playing for your team. Giants fans are already showing the hate that once was love.

  4. smcgaels1997 - Dec 28, 2012 at 7:56 PM

Plenty of interest eh, yet there’s been to talk about him…LA will throw stupid $$ at him and he’ll throw 50 pitches then be out again

    • koufaxmitzvah - Dec 29, 2012 at 1:46 PM

Funny how you hated the Dodgers just as much while McCourt was buying his 7 mansions rather than paying for pitching.

  5. bobwsc - Dec 28, 2012 at 7:58 PM

a guest spot on Duck Dynasty needs to happen.

  6. smcgaels1997 - Dec 28, 2012 at 8:41 PM

It’s not about hate , it’s about his attitude that they wronged him that’s what Giants fans have a real problem with

  7. crisisofinfinitephils - Dec 28, 2012 at 9:29 PM

I’d take him on the mets. Even though he has a beard of bees. Those are bees in that picture, right?

  8. martysbetter - Dec 28, 2012 at 11:49 PM

Come to Boston, our plan next year is to run out 3 closers to pitch the 7th, 8th and 9th; 2 middle relievers to pitch the 5th and 6th, and a 4 man starting rotation to pitch the first 4 innings of every game.

    • purnellmeagrejr - Dec 29, 2012 at 11:55 AM

      Please come to Denver ?

      • proudlycanadian - Dec 29, 2012 at 3:22 PM

Denver’s not his kind of town.

      • onehokiefan - Dec 31, 2012 at 11:39 AM

        He ain’t movin’ Manning….

  9. lostsok - Dec 28, 2012 at 11:55 PM

He believed the hype about himself every bit as much as he believed that god-awful thing on his face was someone…interesting? It sure isn’t attractive.

If I were a GM I’d sign him to minimum with incentives, but only if he shaved off that grotesque beard.

    • rayfeathers - Dec 30, 2012 at 1:36 PM

agreed. grotesque, idiotic, unfunny, goddamn stupid fucking beard. the mlb shouldn’ t allow it. is he that desperate for attention or does he just want to look like a terrorist?

  10. opshuns - Dec 29, 2012 at 3:35 AM

Its the two TJs that bother me. I really believe there are 5 teams on his trail, but I also believe none of them are as much he asked the Giants for…

  11. denny65 - Dec 29, 2012 at 5:33 AM

Hasn’t this guy’s sell-by date passed? Be gone; and take the ridiculous facial hair with you.

  12. jonirocit - Dec 29, 2012 at 9:59 AM

As a giants fan he invented the word torture . I liked him before the act started and he was fairly effective how ever I did enjoy seeing romo and others . Wilson dilly dallies too much he over thinks as opposed to letting the hitters do that and that causes too many stressful pitches and too many base runners . He was on the downside and how the heck can he be mad at the giants for not throwing away money on him when they helped make him a star .

  13. jaybird22seven - Dec 29, 2012 at 10:25 AM

I hope the Blue Jays don’t go after him.

  14. mtheparrothead - Dec 29, 2012 at 10:52 AM

    Deeeetroit.

  15. dirtydrew - Dec 29, 2012 at 12:34 PM

His act only works on a winning team. He will soon see the money is relatively the same as the Giants are offering, and he can get his old job back. See you back in orange and black getting your ring and a 2 year incentive laden deal. You may even be the closer if your arm is right. Come home B weezey.

  16. psunick - Dec 29, 2012 at 1:25 PM

Unless you assume that Romo is our closer, the Giants need one. And who’s better out there than BW?

Plus, he can keep that beard!

  17. yahmule - Dec 29, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Whoa, a relief pitcher with a painfully contrived wacky personality. Never saw that before.

  18. southpaw77 - Dec 29, 2012 at 3:18 PM

    Cleveland Indians?
You can have Chris Perez the team cancer.

With Brian Wilson and Swisher the Tribe would have two of the biggest clubhouse jokers around.

  19. jkaflagg - Dec 29, 2012 at 6:20 PM

Was surprised that Madsen was “guaranteed” the closers role with he signed with LAA, and would be surprised if Wilson gets the same….seems like it takes pitchers (and especially frequently-used relievers) a better part of a season to get their velocity and stamina back…..are there any major exceptions to this – pitchers who came back from surgery to a heavy closers workload the next season – that I’m not thinking of ?

  20. kappy32 - Dec 29, 2012 at 8:46 PM

I would LOVE to see the beard come to Citi Field.

  21. jwag777 - Dec 30, 2012 at 3:51 AM

10 teams my butt. Who are they? Not one has been made public. Wilson is posturing, trying to make the Giants sweat a little.

  22. rayfeathers - Dec 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM

the beard isn’ t funny and never was. neither is his contrived eccentricity. just go away already.

  23. gvbulldogs - Dec 30, 2012 at 1:18 PM

    He looks like a terrorist!

  24. onehokiefan - Dec 31, 2012 at 11:41 AM

Why he IS a terrorist……….he was seen recruiting Romo in Jalalabad
