Brett Myers said to be “asking for too much money”

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe has an update on the market for free agent right-hander Brett Myers:

There are so many positive views of Myers and what he can bring either as a starter (a former 200-inning guy) or reliever, yet he remains unsigned. “The feeling is he’s been asking for too much money,” said a National League GM. “I think teams are waiting for the price to come down. He can certainly help a team. I think a lot of teams have him on a wish list.”

Myers has been linked so far this winter to the Twins, Orioles and Padres — teams that rarely give out lucrative contracts to free agent pitchers.

The 32-year-old posted a 3.31 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41/15 K/BB ratio in 65 1/3 innings of relief this past season between the Astros and White Sox. He had a 4.46 ERA in 216 frames with Houston in 2011.

Adam Kilgore has an interesting article up about the job status of Nationals GM Mike Rizzo.  The Nats just extended him per the terms of his current deal, so sure, that’s a vote of confidence. But there is some weirdness afoot too: In April, Mark Lerner, the Nationals’ principal owner, told the Washington Times that…

John Danks made his fourth minor-league rehab start over the weekend and Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports that the White Sox left-hander could come off the disabled list to make his season debut Friday. It’s worth noting, however, that Danks hasn’t actually pitched all that well in the minors. He lasted just 4.2 innings in…

Rather than just analyze the team’s struggles, Rosenthal talks about his gut feeling that Mattingly could be…
