All 3 guys are amazing so you can’t go wrong with any of them. I change my mind all the time about which of the 3 i’d want. I think Harper could win the MVP next year. It sounds crazy but for him to look as polished as he did at his age is incredible. ‘All 3 are amazing. I hope none of them get hurt and we get to watch them for the next decade +. Some of these comments are hilarious. Saying they wouldn’t give up a pitching prospect for stanton LOL. People don’t understand how special he is apparently.

Not to mention he was hurt last year and still managed to put up fantastic numbers. As a self admitted Marlins fan, nothing short of Profar, Olt and Perez would excite our non existent fan base. I live in VA and saw the Nats play 12 x’s last season and although I agree Harper is a special talent I would take Stanton over him all day. Trout is a flat out stud but I would rank Stanton the 2nd most valuable asset to add to a team.

They have a Ton of above average depth maybe. But like I said before, the 2 most coveted assets in MLB are Harper and Trout. A close 3rd is Stanton. His power is so incredibly rare. He just turned 23 and has 93 homers already. He is worth his weight in gold. So i’m curious what you think the yankees have that could acquire him.

You clearly have little idea about how their system is being evaluated. Even with an injury to Banuelos and Betances taking big step back their system is thought to be as deep as all but a few organizations.

Maybe you lose the “wow factor” by not having a big name like a Harper in the deal but any GM worth their salt knows they’d love to load up on a ton of high end guys in a trade.

Depth is everything because not every candy bar has that Golden Ticket. In baseball a “big name” isn’t enough, you need ten prospects to get that one star and it isn’t always the guy you thought it was going to be.

Exactly Paper. The big question is once the big league pitchers make adjustments to how they attack him will he adjust back. I think he most likely will but if I was ownership I’d see if I could fleece the M’s (or someone else) for 4 or 5 high prospects (with the bulk of them being arms).

Yeah, the Yankees don’t have a “wow” prospect to offer, but they have some pretty good prospects (in particular the 3 mentioned above) that would be a fairly attractive package. If the Marlins are worried about PR (haha), they may not find a match with the Yankees because there is no super-hyped prospect currently in their system to make Marlins fans okay with losing Stanton, but from a value perspective, the Yankees probably have enough to get it done…if both they and the Marlins are interested.

Personally, I hope the Cardinals stay the hell away….the asking price for Stanton is just crazy high, and OF isn’t one of their needs at the moment. I’d much rather they use the cheap talent they have developed (much of which is ready to be tested in the majors) than to trade a ton of it for a guy that will soon be very expensive to employ.

Thanks for that, church. Specifically, I was thinking Mason Williams (#21 in Keith Law’s mid-season update), Gary Sanchez (#28), and Tyler Austin (#45). Those numbers will probably be better when the offseason rankings come out, due to graduations and continued strong performance since July. Add in somebody like Manny Banuelos, whose stock is down from an injury but would be worth gambling on given his upside if he comes back healthy, and you have the start of a legitimate package for Stanton.

Regarding the structure of the extension, though, I got that wrong. Arb1, which is during the all-important 2014 season, is likely to be lower than any extension AAV. Therefore, the move is either to go year-to-year or to work out a deal following a trade that would fix his first arbitration year right now. Even if it’s $10 million next year, it counts as $5.25 million AAV if it’s a two year deal with Stanton making the minimum next year.

I’m not suggesting the typical “you take our table scraps because we’re entitled to ALL the best players” crap one often sees from Yankee fans. I’m proposing the Yanks surrender significant value that would denude the top end of their farm system, because cost-controlled superstars are worth it.
