After the winter meeting, there are no more big money contracts available. Anyone without a contract will sign veteran minimum or minor league deal to be on a team in spring training. The players previously mentioned are not all stars and they are coming off down year.
Something is better than nothing.

K-Rod would be an upgrade in the current bullpen. If he cannot close then move him to the setup man. If he cannot give you give the Mets 1 solid inning of work then you cut him. If is a baseball contract, not a marriage certificate.

Now the Mets should sign OF Delmon Young, P Jose Valverde, P Francisco Rodriguez and P Matt Capps to minor leaue deals or veteran minimum deals to complete our spring training roster.
This gives the Mets help in the bullpen, options on a closer and outfield help. Given the money situation, the Mets should play moneyball.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Mets are the only team in baseball to not sign somebody to a major-league contract this off-season.
