Thank You Kyle Lohse for 3 out of 5 good years. Hope things go well for you on your quest to make as much money as possible in your last contract. Nothing wrong with that,. just doesn’t fit into cards needs. I would think the Yanks or some team with deep pockets could afford taking a chance on getting a possibly very good pitcher for a few years. He may have 3 or 4 good years in him.He was great in his 1 year deal we gave him. He was conveniently hurt the first 2 years of a big contract we gave him, and then good in his 3rd year, and amazingly good in his walk year. Hard to say he planned it that way, but it still feels funny to me He also sure doesn’t seem to think he owes the cards anything for the 2 years he was pretty much a bust. Apparently, no home town discount for that. Oh well.

Must be rough being a #3 at best, coming off a 4yr $40mil contract. Bet he wants a raise too. Shoulda signed the 1yr 13mil offer sheet. Also, if Boras werent filling his head with big $$$ he might have realized how the draft compensation would hurt his players.

Loshe is an ok 3 and solid 4th guy for a rotation- the draft pick compensation is in fact killing his FA potential. As far as the Cards FO baby it’s not you it’s me. I met these younger, cheaper, less dramatic players named Kelly, Miller, Rosenthall, who are a lot of fun and have earned their promotions. These 3 combined don’t cost as much as a night out with you I”m afraid. Maybe down the road we can still be friends, don’t call me I”ll call you. Peace out…..

Lohse seemed completely reasonable….he’s right. What do players expect a FO to say? I guess they could give players an atta boy and a slap on the back while mentioning they’ll be going in another direction. Whatever.

If a FO told a player during the season that they weren’t interested in keeping him after the year, they’d be ripped every time the guy struggled after that conversation.

If a FO told a player they would like to keep him but then didn’t show a lot of interest after the season, then they would be ripped by the player for lying to them.

In all likelihood, if a team wants to keep a player, they’ve let him know and tried to work out a deal before the guy gets to FA…..if a player gets to FA and he hasn’t figured out what the lack of communication means…..well…it isn’t that hard to figure out. Guys bitching that the Cardinal FO didn’t call to have a chit chat with them just sounds like a needy ex-GF (or ex-BF, I guess, in the interest of equal time) that wants to talk about “it” (whatever that is) after the relationship is over.

It’s a good listen, no bitterness on Lohse’s end but not exactly a glowing review of the Cards front office communication skills.

I agree. Duncan’s influence has had some impact, although probably not very much. Which is ironic given his best season came in 2012 without Dave Duncan.

Regarding draft pick compensation, I am curious to see how it plays out next year. Becasue so few accepted the 1 year offer, it was thought that more teams would make the offer to score the draft pick. However, I now wonder if players may be more inclined to take the offer, which would counter the goal of most teams in making the qualifying offer. I’m probably overthinking this but alas it is still nearly two months until Spring Training games.

Indians should sign em. As a Tribe fan, I’m pretty confident if we signed him for 3 years we’d get more out of him in the big leagues than our first round pick due to our current track record.

Go figure, a second tier free agent with a first round anchor weighing him down isn’t getting signed. I’m guessing starting with the next round of free agency there’s going to be a lot more guys like Lohse accepting the qualifying offer, and the next CBA is going to see changes on this as well.
