Spikeintn - although I respect your opinion I am not sure you understand what kind of PROVEN talent he is and how much he is respected in the league. Behind Trout and just ahead of Harper there is no better asset in the MLB. He has been compared to Cabrera at the plate and can realistically bat 300 with 50 HR's so Olt (bit overrated by I like) and a sampling of AA an A prospects won't even get a return call from Minnie Me and to steal a line from Old Gator, Scrooge McLoria.

Prospects are no guarantee...trust me as a Marlins fan enduring our 3rd fire sale you would be happy with Stanton even at the expense of my earlier proposed trade. So nothing short of Olt/Profar/Perez would even get the Rangers to the table. Mark Cuban please step in and save this franchise!!

I'm a Texas fan, and we would be very unhappy with a Profar/Olt/Perez package. All three have seen AAA and ML action, and the opinion is that Profar is a budding superstar, Olt will be a 30 HR-100 RBI guy, and Perez (a left-hander) will be a #2 or #3 quality starter, and all three will contribute at the ML lever in 2013.
This is a quite different package than that which was received in the Teixeria trade. Saltalamachia was the only one in the package who had tasted ML action, and he was desired for his bat, and the potential to develop the defensive skills to catch. Harrison had seen AA, Andrus Hi A,
Jones Lo A, and Feliz had only played at the Rookie level.
A more reasonable package would include Olt, two position players (AA & A), and two pitchers (AAA and A). There is great quality in the Texas AA & A system, and they would probably be ready when it is more likely that the Marlins will be ready to compete (2016?)

Ignorant comments like this make me question why I have to respond. I tell myself move on and disregard but I can't help myself. I guess 2 World Series wins in the last 15 years qualifies as "sucks every year". Beat the Yankees with a payroll less than the left side of their infield but I am sure you know that. Our ownership/front office is a joke but there are still some knowledgeable Marlins fan that do actually "give a shit". S FL is a fickle fan base with a penchant to only follow winners but a true fan will continue to support the team regardless.

Profar/Olt/Perez straight up for Stanton. Allow him to go to Texas and have some success as we reload and look forward to the future. Stanton is a beast one of the most feared hitters in the game and has no diva qualities, any team would love to have him in their line up even yours!

Again, why do they care if he is disgruntled? He is playing for his own future value.

His arbitration would hit regardless. With such short service time, he will still be at a nice bargain. Also, any team willing to send over such an extensive package is more than likely looking to lock him up longer term.

And...I didn't say career-ending injury.

joerymi, his trade value is at his highest now because 2013 is his last pre-arbitration year. So he's probably only going to make about $500K. After 2013 his arbitration years kick in and he becomes more and more expensive with each progressive year and with fewer and fewer years of team control. That's why his trade value is at it's absolute highest now.

Just for your information, nothing short of silly is a team that's going nowhere holding on to a disgruntled player when there are teams I'm sure willing to offer a substantial high end package of players to acquire him. Also, he doesn't have to have a career ending injury for it to effect his trade value. Any injury has the potential to impact a players value it just depends on the injury.

He is 23, and a budding superstar yet his trade value is at its maximum now? That is nothing short of silly.

Stanton can be unhappy all he wants. Not playing his best will hurt his value, therefore hurt his potential earnings. I see this as a non-issue on the field.

The Marlins being nowhere in a hurry means what, exactly? Trading him now or next year for a king's ransom has little change on the short-term. The difference is the haul in return. I would argue, his value will be higher next year and the Marlins have more time to evaluate the prospects they value most.

And brining up Ellsbury makes my argument, not yours. His peak season was his age 27 season. Stanton will be in his age 23 season. Ellsbury's age 27 season looks to be more of anomaly more than anything else. Stanton's number are building in a way we have seen from other superstars.

Could Stanton have a career-altering injury in 2013? Sure. But it is more likely that he continues his ascent to super-stardom.

Yeah because the Marlins have proven to be a real honest front office over the past 5 years. Give me a break.

Not a coincidence that they are strongly denying all of this just as single-game tickets are about to go on sale. Might as well try to gouge their poor fans one more time before they ship off one of the best young players in the sport.

My friend I have to disagree with you. In my opinion there really is no reason not to move him now.
1st) He's probably at his maximum trade value right now for the reason(s) I previously mentioned.
2nd) Stanton has publicly stated his displeasure with the Marlins organization. He's basically a disgruntled employee.
3rd) The Marlins are nowhere in a hurry as far as competing in the league

There is also the possibility that a player any player can suffer an injury which would seriously hinder his future value both to the Marlins and and prospective team interested in acquiring him. For eample I refer you to Jacoby Ellsbury. IF the Red Sox had traded him after his 2011 season with still 2 years of team control he would have brought the Red Sox a kings ransom instead the Red Sox are hoping that Ellsbury has a bounce back year so maybe some team might be interested enough to offer them something at the trade deadline.

The Marlins have ZERO reason to rush this.

When the Rangers moved Mark Teixeira, he only had a year and a half of team control, and they still got a damn impressive haul.

I think they will trade him but should wait at least until next offseason. Evaluate everyone's farm system, and have the exact package you would take ready to go.

The franshise can either win a deal like the Rangers did with Teixeira, or lose horribly like they did with the Cabrera deal.

It's a pretty good bet that after the Marlins payroll/player purge in November that their attendance will probably drop back to the 2011 level. They certainly aren't going to be competitive in the NL or even the NL East for that matter. This is Stanton's final year of pre-arbitration before he hits arbitration in 2014. Stanton is never going to be worth in a trade to the Marlins then he is now. Just my opinion but it would make the most sense for the Martins to try and trade him now.
