The Mets do with pitching what the Rays do with DHs: scrape the bottom of the barrel. To each team’s credit, they have recent histories of striking oil (Mets with R.A. Dickey from 2010 to last season, Rays with Carlos Pena when they went to the WS in 2008).

As for Pavano, perhaps he should consider his “life’s work” at this point. He had a sometimes decent, lucrative career. Time to find that HS coaching job and “give something back to the community”.
