didn’t the RS already sign a guy similar to Hairston – a right handed hitting OF who crushes left handed pitching?

I’m thinking that with J.Gomes – the RS don’t fit as the mystery team. Maybe Seattle or Cleveland – not the Red Sox.

If I was an MLB ball player, of the 30+ plus age group, and there was a choice between Yankees and Mets, you can guarantee I’d jump at the Yankees. Even if your thought is they’re largely over-the-hill, it’d be awesome to wear the pinstripes. Especially if its all bench time anyway.

proudly, after all Hairston did have a better year last year than Victorino. That should count for something with the Red Sox.

What are the chances the “Mystery Team” is the Red Sox. I’m thinking the same offer they made Napoli and Victorino 3 years / $39MM would be enough to get the deal done.

It will be interesting if he does go with the Yankees. I would think the Yankees will probably offer him a 1 year deal but at an overpay rate. Which would be in keeping with the teams desire to keep the signings of players to 1 year deals and leave their payroll options open for the 2014 season.
