I with you on that and to me, is he going to return to form is a matter of just how much this latest hip injury was affecting him.

If his hip injury was in fact the real cause AND it can be repaired than I see A-Rod being a 35 HR year guy for a few more years. He’s a big and strong and to ,y point he’s dedicated. He’ll work as hard as anybody and overcome it, .. if it can be fixed. If, in the end, the question is addressing and injury that was hampering him from being his best A-Rod will do the work and return to form. If, on the other hand, there was an injury that either can’t be fixed or that once fixed still doesn’t fully correct swing, .. i.e. he just getting old then perhaps your assessment is closer to the truth.

It’s hard to tell what s for public consumption and what is the real deal. So, in effect, only time will tell.

I am not an A-Rod let alone a Yankee fan, but why is he waiting till now to have surgery. I am no medical expert, but how many tests could a person have before determining if surgery is the right option. If he had surgery right after the season, he had an outside chance of being ready late April. Unless I missed something, it doesn’t make any sense.

RG3 is having his surgery 2 days after season ended. Granted a rebuilt new is like taking your car for an oil change, but why wait almost 4 months to have surgery.

If I were a Yankee fan……Wait, I can’t finish that comment.

As I keep posting on here, NY fans can enjoy him playing 40-50 games a year for the next few years of his contract. The only way they’ll get him to leave is to trade him and pay for almost 60% of his salary.

I agree 100 % with you on Jeter, but here’s the dope on ARod. As a power hitter, he has to be able to handle the high fastball away and he hasn’t for 2 years. That’s what Regie Jackson said about himself when he faced Roger and the Sox in the playoffs back in the 80′s. Two, Arod strikes out on slow ,low breaking stuff inside.He can’t hit for the power alleys and trys to jack everything down the line to make up. So he kills his average too.And he’s doing all this with runners on base. At best, he is a 5/6th place hitter now. And I’m a big Yankee fan, so you know I’m really sad to report all this. But I told Jack “I could handle the truth.”

All New York sports teams labor under the “Curse of the Idiot Son” – The Nets don’t count as yet because they were a New Jersey team until this year. ARod was walking out the door and one of the sons frantically drug him back with a 10 year contract. The Mets, Knicks and Rangers are even worse.

Interesting thought, but you know that the $ would still count towards the luxury tax threshold,so there would be relatively little benefit. The balance sheet will not take quite the hit, but there would be no added flexibility to add other contracts and avoid the tax.

His season ended 3 months ago. He could be beginning his rehab by now if he would have had the surgery right away.

It’s really not so much what they are paying because lets face it the Yankees can afford it. The issue is that as long as he’s under contract for multiple years and tens of millions of dollars the Yankees will not just release him. Even the Yankees aren’t going to willingly throw away 40-50 million dollars. Which means he’s clogging up 3B/DH and limiting the Yankees ability to maneuver.

I’m not convinced A-Rod is washed up. Everybody thought Jeter was through after he barely hit .300 in 2008, bounced back in 09 but then 2010 he hit .270 and in 2011 .297. The conventional wisdom was it was the beginning of his death spiral as a major force offensively but he bounced back. Say what you want about A-Rod but he works as hard as anyone at his craft. If there is anybody other than Jeter I wouldn’t ever count out A-Rod is that guy.

He may never see 45+ HRs again but he certainly can be a 30-40 HR guy if he can stay healthy. Which, I grant, is a pretty big if.

Five years? Wow, there is no way he will be healthy enough to play the next five years. He looked awefull last year. The Yankees are getting old, and might show their age in the next couple years.

I know this point is beaten like a blogger on homecoming day, but could you imagine the tone of these stories if it had been Jeter instead? There would have been folk songs written about his toughness and grit and intangibles. But because it is ARod, it is “overpaid” this and “wussy” that. Dude played baseball, and respectably even if not very well (he was far from the worst hitter on the team in the playoffs, and his defense still looked solid).

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and a monster second half.

I’ve said this before, I can only hope the recovery time is five years, if that’s the case maybe the Yankees can use their insurance on him rather than have to throw all that money out the window. This guy was fading badly long before the hip problems.
