Jason Giambi still wants to play

Jan 9, 2013, 8:30 AM EDT

Jason Giambi was nearly the Rockies manager and turned down a chance to be their hitting coach. One of the reasons he’s not a coach right now? Dude still wants to play:

Giambi hit .225/.372/.303 with one homer in 113 plate appearances in 2012. The mojo for Giambi lasted longer than a lot of folks probably thought it would — not many former superstars continue on as role players after their elite skills have faded into average ones –  but it seems like it’s over. I could see him getting some spring training at bats anywhere, but he had the last job one can have on a major league team — pinch hitter — and there’s really nowhere else to go from there, is there?

He must really love playing the sport. He made $132 million, so it can’t be about needing the money.

Remember: if you make 132 million and spend 132 million and one, you’re broke.

As soon as I get finished with AIG. Their legal department is acting like a bunch of cloacal bursae again.

I think Giambi took roids and he is continuing to play so he doesnt get grouped into this recent HOF list of “roiders”

almost like…. “see everyone, i can do it without that stuff, im not like those others guys..(did everyone forget yet?!)”

Giambi was one of the first to come out and admit to using.

I would love to see a fight between the Red Sox and the Yankees to sign him to a minor league contract.

It’s pretty damn amazing that with his depleted skills he still has enough of a batting eye to achieve a .372 OBP.

The way things are going he can still get a contract in Japan.

We all still want to play.
