When the Rosters are finalized will you be doing a rundown of each MLB team and their players that are participating in the WBC? I’m excited to watch the games and nervous as hell that one of the Reds pitchers will get hurt or wear himself out early in the season (cueto). At least we know Chapman probably isn’t welcome on team CUBA anymore.

For those Canadian fans who are wondering about Stubby Clapp, he retired a few years ago but will be a coach for the WBC team. He was recently hired as a minor league coach by the Jays.

The Canadian team will be able to hit, but starting pitching will be an issue. Diamond is not available due to off season surgery. It would be nice if a couple of top pitching prospects such as James Paxton and Jameson Taillon were available.

Russ Martin will be catching. minor league prospect Cale Iorg will be the short stop. Iorg was born in Toronto when his father played third base for the Jays.

As for Votto’s power, don’t worry about it, Reds fans. He clearly came back too soon after his surgery and wasn’t able to generate any power with his legs. Since the debacle against the Giants in the playoffs (remember how a Reds series victory was a mere formality after the first two games?), he’s had all winter to continue his rehab and rebuild his strength.

It is really not worth it for Votto to play in the WBC. He should heal up for spring training not the WBC. There will be other years from Votto to play in it.

As a Reds fan, I’m 50/50 about wanting him to play. After the Reds seemed to wholly mismanage his injury from the very first day, he was unable to generate any power once he came back. He’ll always have that killer eye to keep his avg and obp up, but his slg needs to return to where it was pre-injury. He wasn’t 100% at Redsfest, close but not all the way, a couple weeks ago. I’d love for him to be able to play and get some live AB’s, but obviously not at the cost of further injury. He doesn’t seem like the boneheaded type, but 250 mil is a large chunk of change.

Also, is the WBC usually broadcast on regular channels? A la MLBnet or NBCsports, etc.? Rosters look fun to watch this year and I’d love to watch or dvr some games.
