MASN Sports’ Roch Kubatko reports that left-hander Mark Hendrickson will throw for the Orioles next week at the team’s mini-camp at Camden Yards.
Hendrickson, 38, was out of baseball last season and posted a 5.73 ERA in eight appearances with the Orioles during his last stint in the majors in 2011. He’s now throwing as a sidearmer at the advice of Buck Showalter, an interesting concept given his 6-foot-9 frame, so the Orioles could give him a spring training invite if they like what they see.
Hendrickson owns a 5.03 ERA over 10 seasons in the major leagues between stops with Rays, Orioles, Dodgers, Blue Jays and Marlins.

He is left handed and has a pulse.

Come on, Orioles, you’re coming off a great year in which you played in the post-season for the first time in years. Aspire to competence, at least. You don’t need garbage roster-filler types.

Ok? I am an O’s fan, and I have to ask, why is this news?

He’s a former NBA player that is now throwing sidearm! How does this not excite you?

Wasn’t he drafted by the 76ers?

I am intrigued by this change in mechanics and delivery. Sidearm and submarine pitchers, if they get the mechanics down to a T, can really throw off a hitter. Hell, that delivery re-made Chad Bradford’s career.

Could be a rebirth for him as a LOOGY.
I don’t see how Baltimore has room for him in their bullpen but can’t hurt to look.
