Of course that area was meant to have a ballpark. The park surrounding the area of Dodger Stadium is Elysian Park. Much like the first baseball game between the New York Knickerbockers and the New York Nine played at the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1846.

I love how looking down on the area you can see that it’s even shaped like a ball park. The parcel of land that’s where the stadium sits is perfect for a stadium, too. Its as though the area was just meant to be a place to play ball.

Back around 1982 or 83, the San Diego Zoo held a contest to name the steam train that carried tourists through its safari park annex. The winner was a local kid who came up with the name “Wgasa Bush Railway.” When they asked her how she came up with it, she said she got it from her daddy. Daddy admitted it came from a stamp at his office – I think he was in advertising or something – that they used on interoffice memos. It was an acrostic for “Who Gives a Shit Anyway?”

I’m not sure if that’s still the name of the steam train, but I doubt it, somehow.
