CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler reports that the A’s have┬ádesignated George Kottaras for assignment.

The move clears a spot on Oakland’s MLB roster for John Jaso, who was acquired from the Mariners this evening as part of a three-team, five-player trade.

Kottaras, 29, posted a .211/.351/.415 batting line with nine home runs and 31 RBI across 209 plate appearances last season between the Brewers and A’s. He should draw plenty of interest on waivers.

Kottaras signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Oakland earlier this month, avoiding arbitration. That deal will obviously roll over to whatever team he winds up with.

Always liked this guy. I hope Boston brings him back.

Yeah, especially since the Red Sox lack depth at the catching position.

Yankees please. They need SOMETHING from the catcher spot this season. .351 OBP would do nicely.

Scrooge McLoria might go for him.

I like how it says he signed a contract earlier this. It was only 2 days ago.

Looks like I forgot the word “year” at the end of that first sentence.

        Or month. Or week.

        Ha! Yup blew it again.

I would like to see the Tigers pick him up. He’d be a better back-up for Avila, and maybe even challenge him for the starting role. I like Jaso too, though, and remember watching him in the minors with the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays down in Battle Creek.
