Kyle Farnsworth has multiple offers

Jan 16, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT

With Rafael Soriano off the table the list of established relievers is getting shorter. And apparently several teams feel that ending up with Kyle Farnsworth is better than ending up with nothing:

Rosenthal doesn’t say which three teams those are, but he notes that among the teams in search of back of the bullpen help are the Rays, Tigers, Blue Jays, Mariners, Marlins and Mets.

Farnsworth spent the past two seasons with the Rays and he did two tours of duty with the Tigers. You’d figure if the Rays wanted to keep him they would have done something about it by now. Otherwise, teams are left to decide whether a soon-to-be 37 year-old guy whose walk rate spiked alarmingly last season and who has alternated good and bad years over the past four seasons is worth a gamble.

Farnsworth? Wasn’t he the guy who invented television? Just goes to show you why the Yankees are doing the right thing in making this an austerity year. There isn’t much out there.

Were you a Communications Major in college too?

The Jays are not looking for back of the bullpen help. Why did you bother printing false speculation? Last year, the Jays added several decent, inexpensive and controllable young relief pitchers. They do not need Farnsworth.

I was wondering, when I read that, what exactly Craig meant. Farnsy’ll throw BP? At the moment I think The Beavz might actually have a bit of a glut in the pen with guys who are younger and are handle the job of late innings reliever. Anyone that wants to add Farnsy to Loup, Lyon, Delabar, Santos & Janssen is just being greedy.

      That wasn’t Craig’s speculation, it was Rosenthal’s

Rosentha’s suggestion that the Jays are looking for late-inning relievers goes counter to what AA said last week concerning not wanting to add any more salary following the heavy-spending offseason, and being unwilling to give Oliver a raise to keep him around. Maybe that’s posturing but I’ve got to believe he’d rather bring back DO than bring in Kyle.

I stand corrected. Rosenthal. Ugh. THERE’S your problem! Anyhow, npuninteded has been pretty prescient. Darren Oliver is back on board: Farnsy as a Beav? Not likely.
