Manny Ramirez still wants to play in the bigs

Jan 16, 2013, 9:50 AM EST

And I want a pony:

The guy has pretty much used up all his chances, it seems. He wouldn’t crack most team’s outfields these days, and even if he could, not many teams want the headache and hoopla he still occasions.

That said, he’d probably be the Mets best outfielder if he signed today, no?

  1. Rich Stowe - Jan 16, 2013 at 9:59 AM

why does he want to come back? to be the first person to test positive 3 times and receive a lifetime ban?

    • tripleg3 - Jan 16, 2013 at 12:00 PM

I could see Manny playing for Japan or he could go to astros

      • astrofaninkc - Jan 16, 2013 at 2:25 PM

        Take that back!

      • tripleg3 - Jan 16, 2013 at 3:50 PM

the astros could use him to go along with pena for the dh plus it would be another veteran to their young ball club

      • astrofaninkc - Jan 17, 2013 at 11:04 AM

Right, because when you’re trying to develop young talent, you definitely want a guy who has tested positive for PEDs and is well known for being a total distraction off the field.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 16, 2013 at 1:58 PM

      forget you man.

baseball is always better with Manny………………

did you mis-remember that cutoff he made between ss and cf………………..

or when he ducked into the green monster…………………..

or how about when he offered to trade himself for Brett Farve…………

      baseball should welcome him back.

      • goosepond - Jan 16, 2013 at 3:59 PM

“did you mis-remember that cutoff he made between ss and cf………………..”

Mis-remember? Why don’t you just say forget?

    • nothanksimdriving123 - Jan 16, 2013 at 2:36 PM

But he has promised that, cross his heart, he will absolutely, positively, probably kind of try to avoid taking many, if not most, of the more popular PEDs. Honest!

  2. lazlosother - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:05 AM

It wouldn’t shock me if some offense challenged AL team gives him a shot to DH on a low dollar contract.

    • kirkvanhouten - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Well, some team already did that last year (the A’s) and Manny responded with a .697 OPS and zero home runs in 69 plate appearances.

  3. okcyankeefan - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:06 AM

The Yanks could reunite him with Youk! I bet Damon and Wakefield would fit in the budget as well. Talk about sex and sizzle!

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 16, 2013 at 1:59 PM

do you mis-remember he slapped Youk,

  4. number42is1 - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:12 AM

Craig – Why exactly do you want a pony?

    • Rich Stowe - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:16 AM

he’s wanted one since he lost his treasured “my little pony” from his youth

    • Tick - Jan 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM

      chicks dig ponies.

  5. dcfan4life - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Hes older now so his hand eye coordination is going. Hes not juicing, so his pop is gone. His defense is even worse which is hard to believe, and hes Manny. Hes done.

  6. Rich Stowe - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Because Manny’s so old, maybe he needs to go back to Fenway, because he’ll need to take more frequent restroom breaks while in the field

  7. nyyanksmf - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:31 AM

There’s the yankees right handed bat! Jk please no

  8. geoknows - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:34 AM

I still want to play in the bigs too. For some reason, nobody else wants me to.

  9. number42is1 - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:41 AM

so when do the “Manny HOF” conversations begin?

  10. zipsports - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Just start juicing again Manram. It may give you a shot to come back and play and if you get caught, well, you weren’t going to play without the juice so who cares.

  11. beergold - Jan 16, 2013 at 10:49 AM

And on a slightly lighter note …………..most men in long term marriages would like their wife to ask for sex more often too……….and like these guys it ain’t gonna happen Manny….. just go and be a pain in the azz somewherre other than Major League Baseball!

  12. ironmike778 - Jan 16, 2013 at 11:07 AM

When did Manny play in Oakland?? Wow. Missed that one!

  13. sabatimus - Jan 16, 2013 at 11:28 AM

“resucitate” his career huh? You forgot the “k”.

  14. doclolly - Jan 16, 2013 at 11:47 AM

he could crack a spot in the mets outfield

  15. 85pmart - Jan 16, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Have to dispense with old bull$hit first. Not a market for distractions from the game, it’s gotten old. Society IS moving on…now, on the other side of the story, Manny could quite possibly return to the “Bigs”, and knock either league on it’s asś.

  16. sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Jan 16, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Cashman could give him the Russel Branyan/Jack Cust treatment from last season, i.e., sign him to a minor league deal and keep him around in case other DH options don’t pan out. Washington Heights would probably love to see their native son play in pinstripes if just for a game.

  17. delashmit - Jan 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM

Give it up Manny. You are done. Stick a fork in him and turn him over. You had your chance in the sun and your PEDs. You are FINISHED!!!

    • tripleg3 - Jan 16, 2013 at 3:41 PM

y does everyone hate manny he has one of the best swings in the game

      • mazblast - Jan 17, 2013 at 10:36 AM

“Had”, not “has”. No one hated Manny’s swing, and in his day that swing was worth all the “Manny being Manny” sideshow antics.

His day is past, the swing fell off quickly, and now he’s clearly not worth all the BS.

      • tripleg3 - Jan 17, 2013 at 3:23 PM

yeah i know i was just very crushed when he failed the drug tests and retirement and I’m just too much of a manny fan to let him go it’s very sad the way he might be leaving the game

  18. franklinandbashandflorio - Jan 16, 2013 at 1:04 PM

    Sheattle will take him.

  19. randygnyc - Jan 16, 2013 at 1:17 PM

He couldn’t play for the Yankees for many reasons. First and foremost, the dreadlocks.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 16, 2013 at 2:03 PM

a lot of Dominicans would fill those empty seats……
      it won’t happen.
      too bad.
      Manny is funny.

  20. 13arod - Jan 16, 2013 at 3:05 PM

if he signs with the yankeys i will never watch baseball again!!!

    • tripleg3 - Jan 16, 2013 at 7:19 PM

then ur not a real baseball fan

  21. 85pmart - Jan 16, 2013 at 4:22 PM

“Mis-remember” was used by some senator wannabe, right? Said he served in Vietnam, was found out it was false, he had never been to Vietnam, he said, “I must have mis-remembered”. Yeah, right. Wow. Must be crazy.

  22. pisano - Jan 16, 2013 at 6:04 PM

I wish this bum will get lost.

  23. nbjays - Jan 18, 2013 at 8:04 AM

I dunno, maybe Jeff Loria and the Marlins should sign him. It could potentially double Marlins’ season ticket sales… to about 20, to hear Old Gator tell it.
