Interesting year coming up for the NYY pen. Mo comes back for what is most likely his farewell tour. Soriano is gone to the Natties, and Mo's two most likely in house replacements are arbitration filings. Interesting to see how things go with Robertson. It would seem to me that assuming Rivera is healthy this would seem to be a chance for either Joba or Robertson to learn whatever they can from him. In the unlikely event that Mo bows to mortality it will fall to one of them to fill his shoes NOW. The offseason will bring decision time on Chamberlain, I believe Robertson has one more year of arb left. In any case it will be a different story in '14 when the starter only goes 6 compared to what it has been for the previous 17 seasons.

Chamberlain hasn't been a bad pitcher for NY. He's a pretty good option out of the pen, and of course they expect a normal workload out of him this year. Joba has been a victim of the hype he generated as a rookie, injuries, and an odd approach from the NY front office. If you look at his production, he's been worth what they've paid him when healthy.

Arbitrators don't look at what the player made the previous season so much as they look at what players with similar performance records through the same stage of arbitration have made. For an Arb3 player, that's actually a fairly low sum.
