I felt like Fister broke out at the end (and was more of an asset than Porcello), but Scherzer is definitely the sh!t. Your right on that. I hope the shoulder issues weren’t from going too many innings. I really thought he was having a better year than V last season — more steady.

My point was on getting a raise. Porcello gets his based on what he has already earned and what he deserves, but Fister got his on actually what he did. But Scherzer is the deal for the Tigers.

Scherzer filed for $7.4 million and if you take away the first two months of last year, he is CY Young talk. Second in strikeouts only to the ACE of the staff Justin Verlander. Scherzer is the bargin whether he goes to arbitration or not.

Porcello’s ’12 playoffs: 1.1 IP
Fister’s ’12 playoffs: 19.1 IP

Two stints on the DL notwithstanding, Fister is one of the more underrated pitchers in baseball. Certainly a better pitcher than Porcello. 4 Millions is a bargain.

It also shows what a difference pre-draft value can be.
Porcello (23) career earnings: $8.6 M.
Fister (28) career earnings: $1.3 M

But the Tigers’ biggest bargain is Jackson. A 5 WAR centerfielder at about $4 Million, entering his prime. His number will shoot up.

MLB Trade Rumors’ Matt Swartz predicted Hochevar at $4.4M, so this is very much in line with previous similar players. Hochevar’s agent is Scott Boras.
