Ellsbury….this guy is always injured and spends about as much time on the DL as Carl Pavano.

Overpay…why according to uyf,ever player on the Boston roster is overpaid. The Yankees, on the other hand,have overpaid their roster since the dawn of time. Ells would get way more than 9 mil on the market. Look at what Fredo Stienbrenner paid for Youk and his numbers. 2013 will be the year NYY miss the playoffs ,as the geriatric pitching staff will show some age,and the 100ish home runs they discarded won’t be there to bail them out.

Maybe Ellsbury can give them a full season if he avoids the freak injurys.

It’s not like the collision with Beltre and having Brignac tumble down on his shoulder were of his doing, though one can argue he took longer to recover than perhaps expected.

MLBTR calculated his award if he went to arbitration at $8.1MM so this would appear to be an overpay. If he can stay healthy he’s worth if if not he isn’t. But that’s the gamble every team takes with these awards. The only difference with Ellsbury is his track record isn’t that good at giving the Sox a full season.
