I think any team at any time, regardless of whether or not the team is in “rebuilding” mode, should be willing to trade away prospects for proven players.

Prospects are just that: prospects. Proven players are already a known commodity, and their declining significantly in value is less likely than a prospect turning out to be a dud.

Upton the the Cubs makes about as much sense as Upton to the Mets: none. Neither team should deal prospects until they’re 1-2 players away.

I don’t get it. I understand that teams often take the stance of “we’ll only trade this player if we get blown away by an offer”, but it sure seems like the D-Backs are determined to trade Upton. One would think they would lower their asking price a bit.

Yeah, the cupcakes should have been enough, add in some sprinkles and that seems like a pretty even deal. I figure a dozen cupcakes/week left on Upton’s contract is about even value.
