ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin has the big scoop:

David Wright is off the market. And we’re not referring to the eight-year contract he signed last month.

Weeks after model Molly Beers accompanied Wright to the winter meetings for his contract-extension announcement, the couple became engaged over the holidays, Wright told ESPNNewYork.com.

No wedding date has yet been set.

It’s been a pretty enjoyable offseason so far for Wright, who landed a $138 million contract extension in early December.

The 30-year-old third baseman batted .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs and 93 RBI in 2012.

If I was a baseball player the last thing in the world I would do is get married.

    • greymares - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:13 PM

actually you could just say “the last thing i would do is get married.”

      • aceshigh11 - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:26 PM

        That’s my philosophy.

As Bill Maher said…”It’s not about how hot a woman is…it’s about ‘old’ and ‘new’.

Hugh Grant had Elizabeth Hurley at home, but he wanted Marvin Hagler in a wig.”

Even the hottest woman would get boring after a while…Wright could stay waist-deep in various models until he’s 50 like Jeter if he wanted to.

    • missuniverse1 - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:50 PM

That probably just means that you’re a douche to women whether you’re a baseball player or not.

      • dangernearing - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:06 PM

        And they love it!

      • paperlions - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Actually, it may just mean he is honest. What is wrong with staying single? To be a douche would require dishonesty, and I’m sure you are not going to lay a “the only reason to date is to get married” response on me. It is far worse to get married (or to enter a committed relationship) and to be unfaithful than to simply be honest and not engage in endeavors that hold no interest.

      • dondada10 - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:39 PM

Wait a second, I never said I don’t believe in monogamy. I just don’t believe in marriage. Why bring the government into it? Why can’t two people just decided to spend the rest of their lives together, and have children if they so wish.

      • historiophiliac - Jan 20, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Wow, yeah, I can’t imagine what that same-sex marriage campaign is about.

    • captainwisdom8888 - Jan 20, 2013 at 6:14 PM

I wouldn’t get sick of her in a million years

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:14 AM

it is always better to have sex with a pretty woman.

      go dw

  2. slickdemetrius - Jan 20, 2013 at 11:58 AM

You have it all wrong. The only important information here is that Molly Beers is off the market. There goes my only chance at a super model now – and she didn’t even get the pleasure of hearing me sing “You are so Beautiful”…

  3. Panda Claus - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:01 PM

I think it was Homer Simpson that say it best, “Mmmm, beers.”

  4. lew24 - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Molly Beers….wow! Wright will never have a big hit than Molly! Congrats!

  5. greymares - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:11 PM

I understand this is a baseball blog but if i can use another sports analogy David has out kicked his coverage !!!

  6. markofapro - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:33 PM

Waiting for a quote from Brent Musberger.

  7. jason9696 - Jan 20, 2013 at 12:42 PM

    Molly Beers or Molly Juggs?

  8. uwsptke - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:01 PM

I can’t believe there are ten comments already without one “she finally found Mr. Wright” joke.

  9. richyballgame - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:04 PM

    Congrats David! :D

  10. ningenito78 - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:20 PM

Dumb ass. Did Jeter teach you nothing David?

  11. cackalackyank - Jan 20, 2013 at 1:35 PM

Poor guy, he is really suffering these days…well his contract is with the Mets…so the suffering will become real soon enough.

  12. sbmcintosh36 - Jan 20, 2013 at 2:59 PM

    @aceshigh11…
The same Bill Maher that’s paid for a new Marvin Hagler on a wig weekly for the last 10 years???

  13. sbmcintosh36 - Jan 20, 2013 at 3:00 PM

Congrats David you finally hit one out of the park with someone on base!

  14. bigmeechy74 - Jan 20, 2013 at 3:12 PM

I wish I was a hot girl. Just be bornkmthen get hot as a teenager and everyone is nice to you (except jealous girls) and then marry a rich dude and never have to worry about s–t.

    • bigmeechy74 - Jan 20, 2013 at 3:13 PM

      born then, not bornkmthen

    • historiophiliac - Jan 20, 2013 at 5:36 PM

How much would it suck for you if you were born with like a brain and ambition and shit too?

      • samu0034 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:11 AM

Or, y’know… a sense of humor. Further, if you can’t acknowledge the wheels that are greased in our society by being a beautiful woman, you’re just being obtuse.

      • historiophiliac - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:49 AM

Wow, you must be totally hot because your reading comprehension/reasoning skills suck.

  15. cowboysoldiertx - Jan 20, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Has NOONE learned anything from the man himself, his Holyness, King JETER. You fuck them and give them gift baskets, not wedding rings!

    • historiophiliac - Jan 20, 2013 at 5:37 PM

Lemme know what your wife says about your comment.

      • rocketsteadman - Jan 21, 2013 at 9:19 AM

You might be stretching with that comment…I would imagine the majority of people on this blog have Te’o ‘girlfriends’

  16. dukepatrol - Jan 20, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Yikes-some pretty out there responses.Did you ever hear of love-it does exist.

  17. cintiphil - Jan 20, 2013 at 10:14 PM

Lets all just wait and see. Stan was married for 72 years before his wife died. And she was still his wife. Of course, he didn’t have 138 Mil. If Wright is still married after 5 years, he will be the winner anyway.

  18. jmmsr1 - Jan 21, 2013 at 12:37 AM

Wonder what Kevin G. Would say to little boy Wright during a pick- up game?? Ha ha!

  19. romoscollarbone - Jan 21, 2013 at 1:38 AM

Good for him, congrats. Maybe his voice will get deeper after he consummates the marriage.
