It’s about time! The Great American Smallpark is a nice ballpark.
Quaint. Not much bigger than a little league diamond.
But a nice park. Great views from every seat.
I can not wait to see it. And the home run derby? Moon shots, lazer beams, frozen ropes.
That Home Run Derby will set records not acheived until the next time Cincinnati hosts the ASG.
Can’t wait to get tickets!

St. Louis – 40,272 (6th overall)
Cincinnati – 28,978 (16th)

I’d say it was a VERY apt comment from an informed fan. Humorously put, yes, but surrounding a big ol’ nugget of hard truth.

Best part of this story is that they did not choose Miami despite the new, flashy stadium and absence of ever hosting one.

Maybe Bud is hoping a new owner will be hosting it or that the Marlins might at least be competitive by the time they do.

I would guess Washington in 2017, Miami in 2019 (they’ve never hosted one), and Philadelphia in 2021.

Understood. I was trying to refer to the fact that after Citi Field and GAB in Cincy have the ASG, Citizens Bank Park will be the second oldest ballpark to have never hosted an All Star Game, behind Tropicana Field in Tampa. And while it will have been 17 years this year since our last one, the fact that they have filled up 2015 means that by the time we are eligible to host again it will have been 21.

Philadelphia hosted the all star game in 1996, a mere 16 years ago. I’m not a math genius, but I think the average gap between a team’s turns should probably be, oh, about 30 years.

There has been a glut of new stadium building in the 1990′s and 2000′s. Between 2000 and 2004, eight new ballparks opened. Given that glut, it is not surprising that one of the newer ballparks missed out. Citizens Bank Park has also not hosted an All Star game yet.

The last part never crossed my mind but usually a new stadium almost guarantees you’ll get one in the near future. I guess I forgot about the putting in some effort to get one thing. Thanks for the reminder.

Sometimes the Reds and their fans forget that you have to try in order to get the ASG. It’s not an entitlement.

Also, keep in mind that Cincinnati was selected well out of sequence in 1988, and 2015 will still be less than 30 years between selections.
