Many Major League pitchers have come and gone, but there was only one Sandy Koufax. What a pity he had to retire at age 30. If he could have pitched as long as Nolan Ryan, imagine the numbers he might have put up!

Koufax is a Brooklyn guy and may have known Wilpon for a long time. Despite that, it was always weird thinking of him being associated with any team besides the Dodgers.

From 1963-66, there was Koufax. Marichal, Gibson, Maloney, Chance, Ford, had great seasons, but they were in the “Everybody Else” category.

I trust your information about Koufax more than anyone. You must’ve known he was practically unhittable with a repertoire of fastballs. There’s been nobody like him since, not even guys who juiced like Clemens. I was very young when he retired but I know him and Don Drysdale formed one of the best 1-2 punches ever. The Dodgers need a boost, especially with the Giants one of the premier teams in baseball.

McCourt , Murdoch and their little dirty henchmen. Murdoch will tell the Post editor to sell papers with BS stories to make more $$$ to buy his Dragon Wife more shiny things.The guy is so cold blooded , he hung his own son out to dangle in the wind from a long rope.. Sandy had a couple of failed marriages but he and Drysdalr owned LA for chicks back in the 60;s. Oy Vey !!,Not Gay ! Pass the chop liver and bagels !

Thanks for bringing some clarity to the situation. Koufax has always been a class act and I am certain he will bring a lot to the organization. Whereas I have always been a die hard Yankee fan, I have always admired Koufax from afar.

Sandy Koufax spends a part of every Spring Training with the Dodgers coaching their pitchers. I think he also spends some time in the minor leagues checking out the talent.

He had been a special adviser to the Dodgers since he retired so its not 50 years too late. What happened is that in February of 2003 when Fox owned the Dodgers their New York Post published an article which accused Koufax of being Gay. He took offense to the article and quit. Though the Post posted an apology and retracted the story he vowed not to be involve with the Dodgers as long as Fox owed them. Flash forward to McCourt and Koufax knew the slimey lying hack this guy was, he accepted to participate in Dodger events but was never offered a job by the hack.

Ive seen Sandy at Mets spring training for years now.

I’m sure there must be some reason. Because on the surface it looks like the Dodgers are 50 years late on the most obvious PR move in the history of California MLB. The man was spectacularly popular in the ’60′s.
