My insurance premiums have always been at fixed rates that are the same for all employees. The only difference is whether you are insuring employee only, employee+1, or family. There is no discount or increase based on weight, or whether or not you smoke, or anything else. I don’t believe it is that common to get any discount for losing weight. Most companies negotiate a group rate that applies to all employees.

Yea it sounds a little crazy but we dont know the details… hes been looking for a job right? So maybe he has been on a diet for a while now and is at 238 when he’s usually 255. When you’ve lost weight its even harder to lose more. You have to keep up with the things you are already doing to lose weight plus do more.

From the Phillies prospective its doesnt seem to be about wanting him to lose weight . It seems more about them wanting him to stay at his current weight. And if getting him down 8 extra pounds is possible then even better.

If he goes on the Atkins diet he loses that in less than a week. You lose a lot quickly on Atkins, then it goes much more slowly.

It makes perfect sense. Players don’t workout during the season like they are now. I bet almost all players are heavier by a decent margin at the end of the season.

Dear Delmon:

Here’s a clue. Don’t eat as much. Exercise more, even if it’s just walking more and taking stairs instead of elevators and escalators. Go to a gym and work out; I’m sure the Phillies will pay for the membership.

I’ve been doing stuff like this the past 5 weeks, and have lost 15 pounds. And I’m just some fat, diabetic sixtysomething who isn’t getting paid to get in shape. You can do this.

[Now, the serious part.]

Please don’t be like your brother. He once almost died from the effects of diabetes. When Dmitri played for the Nats, we laughed when the RFK scoreboard listed his wieght at around 290. But really, it was sad. Of course, you’re not even close to being that large, but the risks are real.
