You’re so right. And it’s not like his teammates, manager, GM, owner, fans or city are banking on him being in good shape to help the Reds be a contender. He has no reason to even try.

I like Jay Bruce. His honesty is very refreshing. He’s always been like that.
One of my best buddies is a huge Redlegs fan. Season tickets. Goes to every game.
Also goes to a bunch of away games. He went to Arizona a few years ago with some other buddies of ours that were Reds fans. Bruce wouldn’t sign for him. My buddies were standing down the right field line during BP. About 5 Reds fans in the entire stadium (pretty much just them).
Bruce just wouldn’t sign. So my buddy…(like he is prone to do…gets pissed). He starts heckling Bruce. “We came all the way from Indiana to see you guys play and I can’t get you to sign a ball?”
Blah…blah…blah. “Boooo…come on Bruce!” “What…you to good to sign?”
Now…when we go to see the Cardinals play the Redlegs in Cincinnati I get to see Bruce give my buddy the finger EVERY SINGLE TIME. It’s hilarious. He flips him off from RF every time. Great stuff.

Good for him. He knows that the shape he has been in the past few years is good enough for him to be a pretty damn good baseball player. Better to improve your swing and fielding than to improve your “shape” when you are already in good shape.

Ya but Jay Bruce doesnt need to be in the best shape of his life to get a new contract, or extention, or even a job as many of the other players do. Big difference. And if anyone points out neither did CC Sabathia, well the man was huge. He needed to for other reasons haha.
