Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are pursuing a trade for Jason Kubel of the Diamondbacks. Talks aren’t at an advanced stage or anything.

This is not the first we’ve heard of the O’s interest in him, as Jon Heyman reported it a couple of weeks ago. But the fact that there is still a dialogue means that the interest remains on the Orioles’ part and that, in all likelihood, there is mutual interest in getting a deal done.

Kubel is due $7.5 million next year in the final guaranteed year of his contract. He hit .253/.327/.506 with 30 homers and 90 RBI in his first year with the Diamondbacks.

“…and with Delmon Young off the table…”

Holy shit, it *does* work with any story.

they should trade for Morneau as well and call them the Twins

I’m okay with this if it does in fact happen. This would mean we could afford to move Reimold to the DH position (where I feel he’s better suited) and use Nate as a back-up OF. In doing so we solidify LF, DH and 1B without a platoon that involves 3 positions and 3 players (Davis, Reimold, McLouth), and bring back the HR/RBI lost when Reynolds went to Cleveland. Sound reasoning and less expensive than a Bourne or Upton, and won’t cost us draft picks or top prospects.

Yep. I’m not the biggest Kubel fan, but as long as he doesn’t cost much (my guess is either Matusz, Arrieta or Britton with another lesser prospect will be the final deal) it would be helpful.

Ok seriously Craig. This is the third time this offseason you have posted this article. Just saying.

To be fair, it’s also the third time (at least) the talks have flared up.

Exactly. The point is, if we make a deal, great. Kubel would make the middle-of-the-order bat the O’s needed. So can you just tell us if/when that happens instead of reminding us every 2 weeks. As an O’s fan who loves good acquisitions to his team, this annoys the crap out of me. One time is enough.
