The White Sox unveil some sweet throwbacks for 2013

Jan 24, 2013, 5:00 PM EDT

The White Sox wore the 1970s red pinstripe throwbacks last season. This season — on home Sundays — they’re wearing this sweet getup:

Hoping like crazy that Baines is wearing his originals from 1983.  Also hoping that, contra Fisher, no one gets any of these near Greg Luzinski. That was not pretty:

Are they going to wear shorts again to?

    • jdd428 - Jan 24, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Everyone always brings up the shorts. First, the shorts were not with this uniform – it was with the previous ones (1976-1981)- blue and white pullover with a simulated full collar and “Chicago” on the front in an Old English-style font.

Secondly, the shorts were worn exactly THREE TIMES in August of 1976. These were not a commonly used uniform feature, yet everyone seems to harp on it. OK, sure it was a bad idea. But they stopped it quickly. So, move on.

        Its a joke, calm down.

I applaud you… you must have a great life to be that worked up over the White Sox uniforms from the late 70s and early 80s. To have nothing else to have to worry about other then getting that worked up over uniforms… everyone should have that life! Bravo my friend.

As Sgt. Hulka said in the movie Stripes, “Lighten up, Francis”.

      • stlouis1baseball - Jan 25, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Everyone brings up the shorts because they were the most ridiculously gay looking shorts ever seen on a collection of Men at one time.
Sorry…they were the most ridiculously “cheesy” looking shorts.
Or corny…or goofy…or stupid. Whatever you want to call them.
        Point is…they were hideous.
So hideous…every finds joy in bringing up their hideousness.
Can’t move on. Impossible to move on. L

    They, are, glorious!

  3. philsieg - Jan 24, 2013 at 5:20 PM

They resurrect some of the ugliest unis from the Age of Ugly Unis. Those things aren’t even good industrial league softball unis.

    • philsieg - Jan 24, 2013 at 6:16 PM

Bah! Baseball uniform pants should have a belt. Shirts should button up the front. Plackets are optional. Anything else is coming to work in your lounging PJs. And powder blue is a color reserved for your kid’s Dr Dentons and the nursery walls. Now all you kids get the heck off my lawn. :-)

Should we point out the obvious about how the “models” are covering up most of the shirts with their arms and the railing? Nice job guys.

    • stlouis1baseball - Jan 25, 2013 at 12:39 PM

LOL! Now way our team wears something like that Phil. You would think 428 would be able to take the ribbing in stride by now. He seems a little self-conscious about it.

  4. sportsdrenched - Jan 24, 2013 at 5:26 PM

They’re only cool if they are worn with stirrups, and the guys that need glasses wear those giant lens aviator types…..oh and they pull up to the stadium blasting Billy Squire.

  5. wlschneider09 - Jan 24, 2013 at 5:45 PM

In fairness to the uniform, Luzinski didn’t exactly look dashing in any uniform.

  6. steelers88 - Jan 24, 2013 at 6:13 PM

The Pirates are doing the same thing with their alternates.

    Nostalgia trumps taste.

Those uni’s actually look pretty sweet. I want one

  9. hojo20 - Jan 24, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Lamarr Hoyt was a stud that year, 24-10.

  10. simon94022 - Jan 24, 2013 at 6:58 PM

The blue and white pullovers from the 70s were actually not terrible. These things from the 80s were an abomination.

Once again America will get to laugh at a team calling itself the “White Sox” that doesn’t even wear white socks.

    The retro jerseys are sweet

  12. tmohr - Jan 24, 2013 at 8:39 PM

    Um, no. Those were heinous.

What they need to do is roll out the 1950s uniforms.

  13. joegolfer - Jan 25, 2013 at 12:41 AM

Last year they honored the 1972 team by wearing their throwback uniforms for Sunday home games.
This year it will be the 1983 team, whose slogan was “Winning Ugly”. While I’m not a big fan of this particular uniform style, I know a lot of people who are. My niece wears that year’s hat to all the games, and I’ve seen a lot of others wearing that hat as well. The uniform? Okay, not that, but I’ll still be rooting for them.

The Special Bonus for these games is that during the 7th Inning they’ll have races between giant-sized Baines, Fisk, And Kittle:
