Love to be a fly on the wall inthe insurance company that the Yankees wrote the A-rod policy with.there are a lot of blogheads here that want to escape reality on this subject and many others .Please don’t take it personally, I gotta deal with mental midgets on PBT.

Fail. The “pre-hab” bit was all smoke and mirrors. A-Rod is done, was done at the end of the season, the Yankees knew it, A-Rod knew it, the doctors knew it. I told everyone this two weeks ago and everyone jumped on me – “how stupid are you? He’s doing pre-hab”. Yeah, yeah. And I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

There is no conspiracy involved nor was Rodriguez dragging his feet. He didn’t have surgery on October 10th because he didn’t know anything on October 10th.

Here’s the breakdown for the timeline. In game 3 of the ALDS he told Girardi his right hip hurt and it should probably be checked out. He went to the hospital and underwent a MRI which came back clean. The series continued but he was still feeling discomfort and saw limited action from there on out.

In November he went to Colorado, as he does every off season, for a physical. That’s when it was discovered that he had a torn labrum in his left hip.

Surgery was needed to repair the hip but his doctors ordered six weeks of physical therapy to strengthen and condition the hip prior to surgery. After thr six weeks of PT, surgery was done on January 16th.

Now he faces 4-6 months of rehab.

SO, here’s my questions. Here’s a guy who’s making a gazillion dollars a day for pretty much doing nothing. If he wanted to play againin2013, why did he wait nearly three months after he helped the Yankees make to the off-season to get his hip surgery done? Why didn’t he have surgery on about October 10th, 2012? And why didn’t the folks writing his paychecks, get that surgeon scheduled in a hurry?

The insurance policy is issued by Team Scotti, a Pittsburgh-based insurance firm that provides insurance to Major League Baseball teams. The exact terms of the insurance policy are not publicized but most experts agree that the policy will cover between 75% and 100% of his contract. He has to be out a full season before the insurance kicks in. There are no provisions for a reimbursement for a partial season. It is also not known if the policy covers the life of the contract. Team Scotti was quoted in an article in Insurance Journal that said most policies issued for players are limited to 5 years. It’s not known if the Rodriguez contract has a term limit. Many policies also have exclusions for certain injuries but it isn’t believed that the injury Rodriguez had would be excluded.

As to your other point, Rodriguez is not being investigated. A doctor in south Florida who has been advising him and other players on training, nutrition and dietary supplements is under investigation by the DEA and MLB for possible links to PEDs.

If A-Roid misses the season, the Yanks get to cash in on an insurance policy…I think. Besides, if Youk can stay healthy,and Joba doesn’t continue trying to bean him whenever he sees him….I think his production will be fine.

Besides, with Afraud under investigation again, It’s better to have him out of sight until the next blaming of a cousin.

Yes, there is a reason why Jeter has been with one team his whole career and A-Rod hasn’t. Lets see– could it be that while both are HOF talents, only one got lucky enough to break into the bigs on a team that was wealthy enough to be able to outbid all other suitors each time the player reached free agency?

We will never know how A-Rod would have aged if he hadn’t moved off SS. Like I said earlier, Jeter has been better than A-Rod for the last couple years, but he still hasn’t had close to the career Alex has.

I would venture to say that if teams could choose between Jeter and A-rod over their full careers they would choose A-Rod over Jeter everyday and twice on Sunday. There is a reason he has been the highest paid player in MLB for a long time.

Maybe top 20, but not top 10. As for first ballet HOF, if Barry Bonds isn’t first ballot, Alex isn’t either.
@Alex K, you think Alex can play ss at Derek’s level over the last 3-4 seasons? Not to say that Jeter is a capable ss anymore, but Alex lost all of his mobility since he got “bigger” and Jeter makes the plays he should.
It’s quite embarrassing to be arguing between Jeter and Arod.
I would venture to say that all 30 teams would rather have Derek over a full career. Their is a reason he has been on the same team for 18 seasons.

In Jeter’s case, he’s played in 158 career postseason games, almost a full season’s worth. A-Rod has only played in 75. Jeter is therefore obviously ahead in all cumulative stats; however, see my post above to note that their rate stats are extremely similar.

I like Jeter far more than A-Rod, but there is no arguing the numbers– during the regular seasons A-Rod has been the superior player (and WAR reflects his being a clearly superior fielder), and hey are interchangeable in the postseason. There just is no fact based argument to call Jeter “clutch” or A-Rod a failure, no matter whether using regular season or postseason stats.

Paperlions is right…there is a perceptual difference in fans’ minds with confirmation bias causing inaccurate assessment of the two…particularly undervaluing Rodriguez’ contributions.

Now, like Cur, I’m no Yankee or A-Rod fan, so I must go shower after being forced to defend him.

At this very second, no, A-Rod is not better than Jeter. For their careers? Jeter isn’t particularly close to Alex. Also, if Jeter only wanted what is good for the team he would have moved of SS when the Yankees got A-Rod because Alex was a much better defensive SS.

And I’m with Reflex, in what world is A-Rod not easily and overwhelmingly a first ballot Hall of Famer? He is probably one of the 10 best players in baseball history.

Your Jeter stats are only his ALDS stats. Also, using cumulative stats to compare with A-Rod is a bit misleading when he has played in more postseason games (not a major criticism as you did include the rate stats which are more valid in comparing the two).

Using the career postseason stats, here’s how it breaks down:
Jeter: BA .308, OBP .374, SLG .465, OPS .838, K/BB 2.09
Rodriguez: BA .263, OBP .369, SLG .464, OPS .833, K/BB 1.92

Jeter’s higher batting average is offset by A-Rod’s greater plate discipline as evidenced by the lower K/BB ratio, resulting in virtually identical OBP, SLG, and OPS.

In what world is ARod not a first ballot, no doubt HOFer? The only possible way he could miss that mark is if the writers keep their current views on steroids, which is possible. Based purely on his stats however, ARod is not just first ballot, he’s inner circle, one of the top twenty position players who ever played, easily.

@djposti: there is no getting to the post season without ARod’s contribution. The post season is so short that ANY player, no matter how good, can look less good while a total mule can look “clutch” (see Young, Delmon).

Alex is in no way better than Jeter at this point in their careers. Pure numbers standpoint Alex has had a better career., but Jeter is one of the best leaders to ever step on the ball field. Jeter first ballot HOFer, Alex not so much.

Yanks can opt out of A-Rod’s contract if he misses the entire year. Sounds like Cashman is laying the groundwork for that to happen. If I was you A-Rod, I would watch your back around Cashman….accidents can happen.
