Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have signed right-handed reliever Chad Qualls to a minor league contract. The deal includes a spring training invite.

Qualls, 34, posted a 5.33 ERA and 27/14 K/BB ratio over 52 1/3 innings last season between the Phillies, Yankees and Pirates. He still induces plenty of grounders, but his strikeout rate has declined in four consecutive seasons.

There isn’t much upside to be had, but with little experience in the Marlins’ bullpen beyond Steve Cishek, Ryan Webb and Mike Dunn, Qualls should be in fine position for a roster spot if he has a solid spring.

In fairness to the Pirates, they traded Casey McGehee, who is now playing in Japan. It seems like a wash.

The Feesh seem to be hot to drape trash heap players with crass uniforms this orfseason. Who do they think is gonna turn out to see these guys play – their grandmothers?

Very pleased he’s not in the Philadelphia bullpen anymore.

    Chad Qualls is done.

Yet another insignificant move by the Marlins. This will go down as the off season of the salary dump being replaced by “utility players” and OPNW (other players nobody wants). So hard to be a fan of this team. Please Mark Cuban buy the Marlins!

You bring the chicken. I’ll bring the knife. We’ll pray together.
