If Robertson’s looking towards home plate for a sign in that photo, then someone reversed the photo. He’s a righty, not a lefty.

Only problem with that is $78M is tied into 4 players with a combined age of 147 years old, of which only one (CC) may be considered all star calliber by 2014.

Good deal for both Robertson and the Yankees. Although I still have a hard time thinking that Logan will make $50K more in 2013 than Robertson. I’m sure it’s a function that Logan has gone through the arbitration process 4 times, Robertson twice including this year.

According to my best calculation if we add up all the guaranteed 2013 contracts and the players that qualify for pre-arb that will make the 25 man active roster the Yankees payroll for 2013 is just about $209MM +/-. That includes their portion of AJ Burnett’s 2013 salary. Of that $209MM total about $102MM will be coming off the books at the end of the 2013 season with 11 players become FA’s not including players who will be arbitration eligible or pre-arb.

Yankees have never been afraid to let their young players use arbitration and reach free agency before locking them up to long term deals. Good to see the Robertson deal done and not drag on.

So the NYY once again avoid an actual hearing. Robertson is a bargain now and it may be one more round of arbitration avoidance next year. However, one has to believe that this is Mo’s farewell tour. Even with the 189 milion number looming, i have to wonder if since Robertson has performed well, if he might not get at least a 2 year deal to be the new closer. I guess it is hard for me to imagine the NYY going to Spring Training with the Closer spot listed as ‘TBD’.
