Still waiting for the unbiased Craig to write a story questioning if the Braves got better offensively & defensively this year (like he did with the Mariners) because the 3 new position players(Upton,Upton, Johnson) had a worse combined War and fWar last year then the 3 players they lost (Jones, Bourn, Prado). Im sure Ill see it soon bc when it comes to the Braves on field play he is never bias. Or so Im told.

Yeah, we’d like to see that. But those of us waiting to watch Boras fall flat on his face are usually disappointed. The obvious example being Prince Fielder last year.

Don’t bet against him pulling something off at the last minute.

Actually, the Pirates would lose their #14 pick. They have the protected #9 pick for not signing Appel and the unprotected #14 pick for finishing close to .500.

Yes they would, it’d be a second round pick but they still have to give up one.

And I don’t see the upside to signing Bourn. As westtribetobe mentioned, Bourn is an older Brett Gardner. Would the Yanks, or anyone else, offer Gardner a 5 year/$75M contract? Forget the pick, that’s just absurd. Also let’s not forget that defense tends to fall off the table as you age, so his one plus attribute is likely to get a lot worse over the course of 5 years, taking him from above average player to average if not below by the end of the contract.

The Pirates should do the right thing and overpay Bourn. Marte, Cutch, Bourn would be the best outfield in baseball for 5 years hands down defensively. It would cover up alot of weaknesses in the roation. Bourn is not worth that money, but for a franchise like the Pirates their fans: (1) deserve the team to finally spend some money on SOMEBODY and (2) pull a Nationals. Overpay Jayson Werth to start building a team, make free agents realize you are serious about winning. Seriously, what other fan base will give an above average player (not a star) like Bourn more love than Pittsburgh fans? Every other city he will just be a new guy on the team. Buy Bourn, Nutting. Sell some tickets, make it appear you actually want to win for a change. Its funny, guys like Nutting dont seem to realize what they have in Pittsburgh. Idiots didnt even know what the word hockey meant (after the 91-92 generation) and boom we get the right guy we sell out every game. Everyone in their brother claims to be a lifelong diehard, and spends their money as such. That’s total BS, i remember when the team almost left, the seats were empty and they didnt even discuss the game that much on the radio. You are sitting on a gold mine of union workers who are only concerned about sports and drinking Iron City. Do the right thing, Bob, and your pockets will reap the reward, I promise you.

It appears that the Avenging Agent is having all kinds of problems finding homes for his free agents. Keep in mind Soriano had to take a 2 years back loaded 28mil contracts that extends past 2018 season. If nothing else, Boras will go play on the stupidity of the Lerners and somehow hoodwick them into giving him a 4-5 deal. There is a sucker born every minute and The Avengent Agent has made his name preying on those suckers.

I don’t begrudge Bourn getting what he can, but the fact is he’s only had an OPS+ above 100 twice in his 7 year career, and his career average OPS+ is 90. Defensively, his drs (defensive runs saved) and other metrics say he was the top defensive center fielder last year, but Austin Jackson was tops in 2011 in drs.

It’s not clear to me why a team would go 5 years and $ 75M for a below average offensive player, even with the defensive premium. Teams can do a Coco Crisp, and get two years of approximate production (105 OPS+ in 2012, 97 career) with decent to good defense at less than half the price per year.

Keep your unicorn. It’s bad enough when a pelican shits on your car.

The fritatta, on the other hand, I will be happy to make for myself, using egg whites, fat free half and half, salt, pepper and turmeric shaken together vigorously and poured over turkey bacon and turkey sausage sauteed in coconut oil and minced garlic, mixed with veggie soy cheese ad home fries made with SunLight low carb potatoes minced together with finely diced shallots, green peppers and fried up in a mix of light butter and extra virgin olive oil. Takes less than a half hour, and you don’t incur the license and veterinary fees, not to mention the cost of erecting a stable and having deliveries of hay bales every week associated with unicorn ownership.

And you don’t have to spend hours imping its wing feathers, either.

Bourn is a really good player. It’s losing the draft pick that really hurts him. Teams draft better than they used to and with the arbitration rules they can hold on to a really good young player that they drafted for like 6 years after their callup until they really have to pay him big money (unless he ends up being super 2 or whatever it is).

So to sign a player and give up the pick without getting some sort of a discount on the contract because of losing the pick just is not gonna be something teams are willing to do and I can’t say I blame them.
