Another love letter from Craig to Barry Bonds.
Yes Craig says of him, “Barry Bonds, we’re talking about players who allegedly (but far from conclusively) lied about their PED use”.
Yes Craig, we all truly believe Barry when he tells us that he honestly believed he was merely taking flax seed oil and an arthritis balm. That’s why his personal trainer did all that time in prison for him for not testifying against him (and I hope he was paid extremely well by Barry). That enormous body and expanding head size was just a side effect of the flax seed oil.
Wow, what a man crush Craig has on Barry Bonds.
As for ARod, he mentions his cousin. Would this be the same cousin who later became ARod’s personal trainer, despite the Yank’s having several of their own personal trainers for team use. The same cousin with all the steroid connections. The same cousin who was banned around 2009 from traveling to the hotels that the Yanks stayed when he acted as ARod’s personal trainer. The same cousin whom MLB banned from being allowed in the Yank’s clubhouse around 2009, when they found out ARod had been using him instead of the team’s official trainers for some unknown reason, like maybe that the official trainers don’t secretly acquire and supply PED’s on demand.
Sure, ARod quit taking PED’s in 2003, just like Bonds just took flax seed oil. Though he always had the gynecomastia (female breasts associated with coming off steroid or artificial testosterone supplements) when the seasons started (Manny Ramirez got busted for taking the drug that prevents this tell-tale sign).

went back and looked at the actual logs they have posted. one they say is dated 2009 has a feb 14 date with a-rod, and a feb 28 date with a- rod and the cousin.
a-rod’s statements were made on feb 9 … at best, he was telling the truth that day, but 5 days later decided to start up again, figuring he was off the hook for another few years? more likely, already had his appointment set up for the 14th, so telling the truth on the 9th, hoping no one asks again after the 14th. and even more likely, had been using all along and was lying…but we only have evidence that he was using peds starting on the 14th.

although, given a-rod’s past performance, i could totally see him staying clean for a bit, telling the truth, then figuring he might as well start up again and take his chances, since getting caught wasn’t as bad as he thought.

Concur. We can’t say how much if any benefit players get from these substances. However, we can say with some confidence that the league will never catch every user and writers and fans will wrongly conclude that they have some clue what percentage of players used. We know nothing and it is foolish to “punish” Bonds, Clemens, Piazza, Bagwell, etc for a mistaken belief they were doing something not done by majority of their competition. I say assume everyone is doing all they can to do their best and compare them based on actual results on the field.

I think this statement “Players are very competitive and will take vitamins, supplements, various other substances to improve their physical abilities.” should read:

“Players are very competitive and will take vitamins, supplements, various other substances that shady faux authorities claim will improve their physical abilities.” This isn’t any different that all the other snake oil being peddled that people buy because they want to believe there is a quick and easy way to stay younger looking, be smarter, lose weight, or whatever. Most of the crap that athlete are taking have no effect on healthy adults (yes, actual anabolic steroids do have an effect, HGH doesn’t except when combined with steroid use, and even then it seems that nearly the entire effect (or all of it) is due to the steroids along and not the HGH). People want to believe things, and that desire makes them more gullible.

All this long (long, long, long, long) story really does is confirm what those of us with a clue already realize – we know nothing! Players are very competitive and will take vitamins, supplements, various other substances to improve their physical abilities. They will take as large a lead off base as the pitcher will allow. Find a way to test for one substance they will seek out a less detectable substance. I’ve reached the point where I think league should throw up their hands and quit worrying about drugs. The Commissioner is not in law enforcement. Just have every player sign a release saying they understand they are responsible for any future physical damage from PED’s. The only way to level the playing field is to allow PED’s since they can never completely do away with them.
