Of the five outfielders who got the most playing time in Buffalo last season, only Matt Den Dekker is still with the organization. He hit 220/256/373. Val Pascucci is a free agent (unless he signed or retired and I missed it). He hit 217/359/394 and is 34.

In retrospect, since they are paying almost his entire salary anyway, maybe they should have kept Bay. He actually looks competitive compared to their other current outfielders. The only real reason to dump him was because having to look at him every day uncomfortably reminds you what a bad signing that was, not because you have a bunch of outfielders better than he is.

Why is there no way they can go into the season with their current craptastic outfield? So they stink. If you add Bourn, what would it get you? You’re still going to finish 4th or 5th.

The only reason to sign Bourn is if he’ll help you down the road, either himself or whoever he brings in a trade. Getting an outfielder just because your outfield sucks this year is throwing away money and a draft pick after a lost cause.

Bourn gets a lot of steals, hes like a poor mans reyes (as far as stats). Mets dont deserve him.

They just got out from under the Bay contract, why go down the same road?

They have to have some outfielder in AAA they could play instead of going forward with this.

Giving up the #11 pick for Bourn would be dumb but there’s just no way you can go into the season with the current outfield the Mets have. It has little short term potential and no long term potential. If Sandy chooses to wait until 2014, he’s going to end up having to spend in a FA market that is just dreck.

I really don’t see the point of a shorter contract either. The Mets are not in a position to compete the next couple of years, why sign a guy who will be gone when your team is next ready to be decent?

I really don’t want this guy even if the pick is protected. I’ve read rumors that Bourn is willing to take less years if he can opt into free agency the following year. So (assuming the pick isnt protected) you give up a pick (while a division enemy gets a sandwich pick), kill your draft pool money and if you can’t trade him by the July deadline he walks unless the team does the qualifying offer. Thanks but no thanks. Stick to the plan Alderson
