Award bonuses are kind of fun. Scott Rolen had a bonus for winning a Divisional Series MVP in his last contract. That award does not exist.

jwbill, thank you. I realize there are other incentives like the one’s in Jeter’s contract for example: Silver Slugger Award, Gold Glove, etc… But like you said for an injury prove player the PA’s incentive is the most likely. As it was was the Yankees signed Chavez a year or so back.

uyf, That’s ok. If he’s healthy and effective, he’ll get plenty of PAs. If not, he won’t. By the way it’s MLB Rule 3(B), which means it can be unilaterally changed by MLB without the consent of the MLBPA.

No performance bonuses shall be based on pitching skill, batting skill or team standings.

PAs, games, even attendance can be included, but PAs would be the best for Hafner. He could be kind of lousy but still get into a lot of games as a PH.

True, but I believe the only incentive allowed according to the MLB CBA for position players is PA’s.

Could be a very nice signing for the Yankees if he can stay healthy. I’m sure the price is right otherwise the Yankees wouldn’t even consider him.

I still say at the time that contract the Indians gave Hafner made sense. Just very unfortunate he has been hurt the last 5 seasons. I thought the Indians would re-sign him this season, but I guess not.

I can see 25-30 bombs out of a healthy Pronk as a Yankee. He would be a solid replacement for Ibanez.
