He was smart, funny, and informed the viewers of all aspects of the team, and history. A great story teller.
He has to now be the pride of the entire cubs organization.

I know I will miss listening to him. Browny and JD were awesome.

Also, the A’s may be the only people in town who don’t think Moss will regress to under .800 OPS. So the A’s think they can get Moss/Carter production-or near it-with Moss alone. Since they have 5 bona fide OF now, it’s also possible Smith can play some first, as well as DH more, giving them a more consistent bat in the lineup than what Carter provides. With Norris and Jaso at catcher Stassi was blocked.

The real question for the A’s is the Verducci effect on Parker, Milone and Griffin. If those guys regress or start the season tired, it could be a very long year for the A’s.

Deshaies claims he likes being close to his daughter who is law school in Illinois and he just likes being in the bigger broadcast area. They gave him a generous four year deal. The Astros claim they gave him a competitive offer.

Fact: The Astros have traditionally expected their broadcast guys to work on one year deals.

Opinion: I just don’t think they valued him to be as good as he is. They thought they could swing some easy deal and it wasn’t a priority for them. They blew it.

3. Maybe Singleton comes in after the All Star Break.
4. Fish or cut bait for Wallace. Maybe that kid from the Marlins can be for real. Fish or cut bait for Castro.
5. Maybe there is some outfielder in the minors who can hit for .700 OPS.
6. And another #1 pick in 2014, with which they still don’t take Appel.

Which is not to say it won’t work out for both teams, but those are three potential starters for one rickety shortstop (and a pitcher). If even one of the three pans out, that’s five years of cheap production when it could really do some good.

Klaw’s org rankings came out today w/ STL #1 (all based on talent Luhnow signed/drafted while running their player development). Plus this trade. So basically in 13 months, Luhnow converted Mark Melancon (who immediately turned into a whoopie cushion post-trade) into Chris Carter (16 HR in 218 AB last yr!), a solid SP prospect & a solid C prospect. Impressive.
