Jeter has a higher slugging than any of those guys. That is despite being an extreme GB hitter. From 2002 to 2012 (the period where batted ball info is available) Jeter is 3rd in GB% of all position players with a minimum of 1500 PA. Behind only Luis Castillo and Abraham Nunez. Unlike those two, however, Jeter has an above average HR/FB% (12.6% compared to 10% league average). So if he hits the ball in the air, he does display above average power.

5 MLB teams have had 3 players suspended for PEDs: Mets, Phillies, Giants, Mariners and Rays. 5 more have hasd 2 players suspended. As of today the Yankees have had one, Matt Lawton in 2005. Yet the Yankees are the one that is in a “muck” and needs a Savior. Let Ye who are without sin cast the first blog; and, Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see the face of Bud Selig handing over the World Series trophy in 2013.

So he wants a contract extension for Jeter. Didn’t the guy just hold up the Yankees at gunpoint to get a new one.
He amazingly lived up to it in the first year, at least at the plate, even if the fielding is diminishing fast. Yanks are gonna have to find a postion for him eventually.
It’s a shame that the ARod contact can’t simply be dumped. He claims he quit PEDs in 2003, but he had his own Personal Trainer (separate from the team trainer) until 2009, and that trainer even travelled to the away games, stayed at their hotels. Oh yes, he as ARod’s cousin. And ARod always had the characteristic gynecomastia (female breasts) that accompany one who is coming off the use of steroids (Manny Ramirez got busted for using the drug to prevent it).
Let’s face it: ARod has been using his whole career, not just a very brief period around 2003.
Jeter has mostly been a class act, at least on the field, as far as we know. I can’t knock him for wild and baseless accusations. That said, by the time he lives out his current contract, his career will likely be over due to age, limited range, and decreasing abilities. Even Willie Mays slowed down at the end.
Go out with dignity, Derek, and see you in the HOF.

I think Jeter will go down as one of the great ball players of all time, however, unless he is going to bat 1st, 5th, and 9th he cannot save the mess that is the NYY offence.

Derek Jeter is not a power guy, I think he topped out at 20 homers one year, so I doubt
the PED connection.

Derek Jeter is the only normal thing around the Yankees and if he said something
I guess some Yankee fans can take comfort at a time when you have so much negative
around the team at this time. I just need to hair ” play ball ” probably all the emotional
soothing I would require. These day’s people are just so sensitive.

No, the real apotheosis of Derek Jeter will occur some time after he has been declared immortal (though dead). In that day, in the distant future, one of Mark Cuban’s grandson’s groundskeepers will be patrolling the monuments in center field when he notices that the Jeter monument has been moved, and the lid of the 24-karat gold, diamond-studded sarcophagus in the crypt it had been covering has been slid aside, and it is empty, and there are no signs of footprints or any other evidence that anyone or anything has actually walked up to or away from it.

Then, in those days, a new miracle, and a new transcendence, will be proclaimed.
